I study the rhythm structure of the original track and find the exact bols (rhythmic syllables) on the tabla that mirror the vocal inflection or the electronic beat. It is a process of translation, taking the modern vibe and grounding it in classical technique, so you get the energy of the track with that authentic, earthy percussion punch.
People often ask if classical instruments can survive modern production. The answer is that they do not just survive, they actually elevate it. My approach is to strip the track down to its core rhythm and rebuild it using the vast vocabulary of the tabla.
