Building a Reading Community in Namma Bengaluru
ThinkBox is more than a library; it is a living, breathing community. From local donation drives and literary festivals to hands-on workshops, we create spaces where stories connect parents, children, and neighbours.
It was such a joy to be invited as the Guest of Honour to judge the literary competition at Capstone School's LitFest. The creativity and confidence of these young minds were truly inspiring.
A look at the judging sheet from the "Book Cover Redesign" event at Capstone's LitFest. It was wonderful to see students connect with their favorite stories through art and design.
Of course, while at Capstone School, I had to visit my favorite place: the library! There is nothing more magical than being surrounded by stories and eager readers.
Our book donation drive for Liktsey School in Ladakh was a huge success, thanks to our wonderful young members. They not only donated their books but also wrote personal messages to their new friends far away, just like the pen pals of the past.
We were so thrilled to be featured in OurBangalore Weekly! It was a proud moment for our entire community, and we loved seeing the joyful pictures of our little readers and their parents in the article.
We are in the newspaper again! We were featured in the Deccan Herald for our winter donation drive, where our community comes together to collect books and toys for underprivileged children. It is the spirit of giving that makes our community so special.
We were so happy to participate in Pratham Books' "One Day, One Story" program. We read "Goal!" and "Exam Fever," two amazing books that challenge stereotypes about gender roles and age, sparking important conversations with the children.
Our little octopus mascot enjoying the two wonderful books from Pratham Books. These stories about a girl who loves football and a mother taking an exam were inspiring for everyone.
We were honored to receive this Certificate of Completion from Pratham Books for our participation in the "One Day, One Story" initiative. We are proud to help nurture a culture of reading in our community.
This was such a heartwarming moment. One of our experienced members took the time to explain our book collection and share her recommendations with a new member. This is what community is all about: sharing our love of reading.
About More Than a Library: Our Community
We believe reading is a shared experience. That is why our community regularly comes together for initiatives like book donation drives for schools in Ladakh and local literary festivals. When you join ThinkBox, you are not just subscribing to a service; you are becoming part of a group that values empathy, sharing resources, and raising curious children together.
For us, a library is not just a room with shelves. It is a hub for connection. When we participate in programmes like Pratham Books One Day One Story, or judge literary competitions at local schools in Bengaluru, we are trying to show children that reading is a social act.
Our community initiatives include:
- Donation drives: We regularly collect books and toys for schools in need, teaching our children the value of sharing what they have.
- Literary festivals: We engage with local schools to judge contests, helping children connect with stories through art and conversation.
- Parent involvement: We encourage families to read together, helping parents guide their children from picture books to chapter books seamlessly.
Whether you are a parent looking for your child's next favourite series or you want to be part of a group that celebrates reading milestones, you will find a place here. We avoid digital algorithms, choosing instead to pick books based on the personality and reading history of each child. If your child is struggling to find interest, we do not force them. We find the right comic, mystery, or graphic novel to bridge the gap. We are rooted in Malleshpalya, but our community extends to families across India who value thoughtful reading habits.
