Festive Celebrations Through Play and Storytelling
Festivals are more than just holidays here. We bring stories to life through hands-on crafts, drama, and messy, joyful learning that keeps kids engaged and away from screens.
Our Ramleela preps are in full swing! Here I am helping one of our little actors with his crown. We make most of our props and costumes right here, which makes the whole experience more special for the kids.
Getting all the props ready for the big show. This little one is checking out the handmade bows and arrows for our Dussehra Ramleela play. It’s a hands-on history lesson.
A close-up of our handmade props for the Ramleela. The children helped make these bows and arrows, learning about the story of Ram and Ravan as they crafted.
The children admiring their handiwork before the Ramleela performance. Making their own props gives them a sense of ownership and makes the story come alive.
A sneak peek into our dress rehearsal for the Ramleela. Even during practice, the kids get so into their roles. It’s the cutest thing to watch them learn and perform together.
This is a glimpse of our annual Ramleela performance, put on entirely by the children. They learn about the story, practice their parts, and build confidence. It’s incredible to see them shine on stage.
Our little Ram and Sita during the Ramleela celebrations. Seeing children connect with our stories and traditions in such a playful way is the best part of what I do. These are the memories that last a lifetime.
About this collection
Forget sitting still and watching. Whether we are crafting Ravan masks, assembling DIY snacks, or rehearsing for our annual Ramleela, every festival session is designed to get your child’s hands moving. We build confidence, not just decorations, by turning age-old stories into experiences they actually participate in.
At The Reading Room, we believe festivals are the best classroom. Instead of telling kids about traditions, we put the tools in their hands.
Our Festive Approach
Every celebration, from Diwali to Janmashtami, follows a simple rule: if it is a story, we act it out; if it is a craft, we make it from scratch. We do not just decorate the space; we help children build the props, learn the lines, and understand the cultural context through interactive storytelling and movie screenings.
Why Our Parents Choose Us
- The Playway Method: Kids explore virtues like perseverance and empathy by playing roles in our Ramleela, not by reading textbooks.
- Hands-on Crafting: We move past store-bought kits. When we make Ravan masks or diya holders, children work with raw materials, fostering focus and fine motor skills.
- Screen-Free Engagement: We use these events to replace phone time with social, active play.
Practical Details
- What to Expect: Most sessions last 90 to 120 minutes. We always include a snack-making activity, so kids are not just learning; they are refueling.
- For Performances: For our multi-day theatre camps, we provide the props and accessories, while parents are asked to send base ethnic wear for their little actors.
- Community Building: It is not just about the child; it is about watching them form friendships, express themselves, and gain the confidence to perform in front of peers.
Whether it is a Janmashtami celebration with Matka decoration or a Halloween session with spooky stories, our goal is to ensure your child leaves with a messy shirt, a handmade craft, and a story they are excited to tell you at home.
The Reading Room
Festivals are when my little Reading Room gang truly shines. I do not just want children to hear about Indian traditions, I want them to live the stories through games, drama, and DIY crafts.
