About Exploring Printmaking
The beauty of Gelli printing is that you never quite know what you are going to get, and that is exactly why it is so much fun. You will layer textures, pull prints, and often end up with happy accidents that look better than any planned design. It is the perfect way to move from 'I cannot draw' to 'look at what I made' in just one session.
How Our Printing Workshops Work
Gelli plate printing is essentially a form of monoprinting. We use a soft, gelatin-like plate as our surface. You apply paint, press down various textures—like stencils, leaves, or even bubble wrap—and then lift the paper to reveal the design.
It is one of our favorite techniques because it is non-judgmental. There is no right or wrong way to do it. If you do not like the first pull, you simply add more paint and print again. It is incredibly popular for kids because it provides instant gratification and a deep sensory experience without the pressure of having to draw something specific.
