About City of Palaces: Mysore Dasara
Filming the Mysore Palace during Dasara is a high-stakes shoot; because it is a high-security zone during the ten-day festival, I manage all the necessary flight planning and coordination with local authorities in advance. I focus on capturing the palace exactly when the 100,000 bulbs switch on at 7 PM, using my Mavic 3 Pro to ensure the lights remain crisp against the night sky. If you have a specific property or event you want to film during this busy season, reach out early so we can clear the logistics before the crowds arrive.
The City of Palaces transforms during Dasara, and my goal is to document that transformation from an angle most visitors never see. I don't just record; I tell a story of the festival's scale.
Why Aerial Perspectives Matter
When you are on the ground, the crowds at KR Circle or the sheer size of the Lalith Mahal can be overwhelming. From the air, I can isolate these landmarks, showing the contrast between the heritage architecture and the modern festive lights. I utilize the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, shooting in 10-bit D-Log profile, which allows me to preserve the details in the highlights of the palace lights while keeping the shadows deep and cinematic.
Technical Approach to Night Shoots
Night photography is demanding, especially with moving targets like festival crowds and light displays. I use specific manual settings to keep motion blur to a minimum. For the Bannimantap drone shows, my focus is on capturing the synchronization of lights and the scale of the audience, providing a bird's-eye view that ground-based photography simply cannot match.
Booking for Festivals
Dasara is the busiest time of the year in Mysuru. My packages are limited because I prioritize pre-production planning—checking air-space restrictions, scouted locations, and weather windows. Whether you are a tourism board looking to promote the festival or a private property owner needing a cinematic showcase, I bring the same DGCA-certified professionalism to every flight.
Commonly requested locations include:
- Mysore Palace night illumination
- Lalith Mahal exteriors
- KR Circle and city center landmarks
- Bannimantap ground events
