Advanced Batting Drills to Perfect Your Cricket Technique
Batting is not just about hitting the ball. It is about rhythm, footwork, and reaction time. My drills fix the root cause of technical flaws, turning practice into muscle memory for match-day performance.
This high-intensity competitive drill is designed to improve footwork, body balance, and speed. By having two batters race to the ball, I create a match-like pressure that forces them to move efficiently and maintain a stable base, which is crucial for playing both on and off drives.
Here, I am working with two U-16 players, Aditya and Shashwat, on an advanced drill focused on balance and explosive speed. The short-distance sprint forces the player to decelerate and stabilize their body quickly before executing a drive, a skill vital for quick singles and doubles.
This is a unique advanced drill using two bats to improve hand-eye coordination and reaction time for a player from Lucknow. By alternating between top-hand and bottom-hand drives, we train the brain to switch focus rapidly and ensure both hands extend correctly and work in sync.
Here, I'm working with Eshan Srivastava on improving the coordination between his top and bottom hand. This advanced drill increases the speed and extension of both hands, which directly translates to a faster bat swing and quicker reaction time during a match.
This session focuses on building stamina and focus, which are critical for long innings. The drills involve rotational movements and quick direction changes before playing a drive, training the player to maintain concentration and technique even when physically fatigued.
Concentration is key. This advanced drill is designed to improve a batsman's focus on the ball. By incorporating movements that challenge their balance and orientation, like front rolls, I train them to quickly regain focus and execute shots with precision, simulating the disorienting effect of a swinging or spinning ball.
Here, I am working with players on their reaction time and core strength through a series of advanced batting drills. The focus is on quick recovery and maintaining a strong, stable base while executing drives, which helps in generating power from the ground up.
This is a high-intensity drill with Piyush, a top U-16 district player from Maharashtra. The focus is on improving foot movement against spin, hand extension, and speed work. Pushing through fatigue in these drills builds the stamina needed to maintain technique throughout a long match.
Here, I am conducting a high-intensity batting drill with Piyush, a U-16 district player from Maharashtra. The drill focuses on improving foot movement, hand extension, upper body reach, and overall speed work to build match-winning stamina and agility.
This advanced drill is designed to improve a batsman's footwork, hand extension, reaction time, and body flexibility. The rapid sequence of movements trains the body to react quickly and efficiently, which is essential for facing high-speed bowling.
About Advanced Batting Drills: The SP Yadav Method
Most players practice hitting the ball, but they do not practice how to hit it. If your hand extension is poor or your footwork feels heavy, it is not a lack of talent, it is a technical bottleneck. In these sessions, I use specific drills, like the two-bat exercise to sync your hands or short-distance sprints to force balance, to isolate and correct these issues before they become bad habits.
My coaching philosophy is simple. Quality beats quantity every single time. While most academies focus on how many balls you hit, I focus on the small technical flaws that stop you from reaching the next level.
The Science of My Drills
Every drill I design has a clear purpose. We do not do random exercises.
- Reaction Time and Focus: We use drills that challenge your eye-ball coordination, simulating match pressure where the ball might swing or spin unexpectedly.
- Fatigue Training: True performance starts when you are tired. I push players to maintain their technique even when their legs are heavy, which builds the stamina required for long innings.
- Biomechanics: Whether it is correcting your head position, grip, or stance, we break it down frame by frame.
My Approach
Whether you are a beginner picking up the bat for the first time or a state-level player looking to fine-tune your game, the methodology remains the same. I work with players from Delhi NCR in-person and conduct video-analysis sessions for students across the globe.
Technique is nothing without a strong base. If your lower body does not support your shot, your upper body cannot react in time. We work on every detail, from your footwork to your mindset in high-pressure situations. If you are serious about fixing your game at the root, let us get to work.
SP Yadav
I am SP Yadav, and I do not believe in generic coaching. My focus is on catching the small mistakes, the stance, the grip, the head position, that hold you back. Whether you are 7 or 19, we work to build a technique that stays with you under pressure.
