Puppy Foundations: The Perfect Start
Bringing a new puppy home is pure joy, but the chaos is real. Let's get ahead of the biting, potty accidents, and crate struggles so you can build a bond that lasts a lifetime.
I was so proud of Leo's parents for seeking training for him right away. Every puppy, especially a rescued Indie like Leo, deserves the chance to learn how to navigate our world. This is what responsible pet parenting looks like.
Proper socialization is about teaching neutrality, not just interaction. This video shows a simple tip for socializing your puppy when guests come over, teaching them to remain calm and look to you for guidance, which prevents many future behavioral issues.
Who says you can't teach an older dog new tricks? Here I am working with Waffles, showing that with the right motivation and engagement, dogs of any age can learn and have fun. The principles of positive reinforcement work for every dog.
Want your puppy to love their crate? Make it the best place on earth! Here, I'm using a high-value reward, shredded chicken, to build a strong positive association with the crate. This makes crate training a fast, easy, and positive experience.
This little fluffball is Spartan at just one month old. The journey begins here, with early experiences shaping the dog they will become. My puppy program is designed to make these early days count.
No matter how big he gets, he'll always be my puppy. This video shows a then-and-now of Spartan. This feeling is why I'm so passionate about helping owners build an incredible, lasting bond right from the start.
About Puppy Foundations: The Perfect Start
That 'land shark' phase is exhausting, but it is actually a developmental need. Instead of saying 'no' or getting frustrated, I teach you how to redirect that biting onto appropriate toys using structured play. It saves your furniture and your peace of mind while teaching your pup what they can actually sink their teeth into.
Puppyhood is the most critical window for learning. Many owners start with force, but I believe in building a foundation based on trust and clear communication. We skip the scary stuff and go straight to building engagement.
We start with 'Focus and Engagement'—teaching your pup that you are the most interesting thing in the room. This happens indoors first using simple wooden block pivot methods, not by shouting commands.
Potty training isn't about punishment. It’s about building a predictive schedule that respects your dog’s biology. We handle crate training by creating a positive association using high-value rewards like chicken or veggies so your puppy sees their crate as a safe, chill zone, not a prison.
We also cover 'Cooperative Care'. This is about getting your pup comfortable with handling—nail trims, ear cleaning, paw checks—so these things don't become battles later. By the time we finish, you won't just have a dog who follows orders. You will have a companion who looks to you for guidance, stays calm around new sounds, and actually enjoys learning new skills. My goal is to make sure your pup grows up confident, brave, and ready to take on the world by your side.
