On a film set, lighting is brutal. High-definition cameras pick up every texture, which is why I focus heavily on prep and prime to create a long-lasting base that does not cake under studio heat. Whether we are shooting a 12-hour commercial or a quick social media ad, my priority is keeping the skin looking hydrated and real, so the actor feels comfortable and the shot stays perfect without constant touch-ups.
When the camera starts rolling, there is no room for error. Working in the commercial space, specifically with brands like SBI, Domino’s, and Khimji Jewellers, has taught me that makeup is not just about looking pretty. It is about functionality.
What I bring to a set is consistency. When you are shooting for 10 to 12 hours, the makeup needs to look exactly the same in the first shot as it does in the last. I use specific techniques for 'no-makeup' makeup, which is often harder to execute than full glam. It requires precise color correction to ensure skin looks even under varied lighting conditions, whether it is the harsh noon sun, indoor studio LEDs, or soft ambient light in a home setting.
I also focus on the skin feel. Actors and models have to move, talk, and express emotions. If the base feels heavy or uncomfortable, it shows on camera. I opt for lightweight formulas that hold up against heat, sweat, and long hours, ensuring the actor stays focused on their performance rather than their face.
Collaboration is a huge part of this. I am used to working in large teams with directors, DOPs, stylists, and production crew. I respect the vision of the production house and the requirements of the script. Whether we are aiming for a high-fashion edge, a relatable family vibe, or a festive, radiant look, I work backward from the final frame to ensure every brushstroke contributes to the story we are telling.
