When working with dusky and medium skin, the biggest mistake is using a foundation that ignores your natural undertones, which leads to that dreaded ashy or grey finish. Instead of masking your skin, I prioritize identifying whether you have warm, cool, or neutral undertones first, so the base enhances your complexion rather than fighting against it.
My philosophy is simple: 'avaru avara tharane kaanabeku' (they should look like themselves). Many brides come to me because they’ve had past experiences where makeup artists tried to make them look multiple shades lighter, resulting in a look that feels disconnected and heavy.
In my studio, we unlearn the myth that beauty equals lighter skin. When I work on dusky or deep skin tones, I use color theory to ensure the makeup looks radiant in both natural daylight and high-definition photography.
