Choosing the Right System for Your Gate
Many people assume any lock works on any door, but that is how you end up with a wobbly system.
- For Metal Gates: I typically recommend heavy-duty electronic rim locks like the Hawkvision models I stock. These are robust, weather-resistant, and built for the constant opening and closing of a main gate.
- For Glass or Office Doors: We often go with magnetic (EM) locks or drop bolts. These require a specific bracket to mount correctly on the frame without drilling through the glass.
What Happens During Installation
When you hire me for an installation, you are not just getting the hardware. You are getting the plumbing for your security:
- Power Supply & Backup: An electronic lock needs a steady 12V supply. I install a dedicated power unit that can be connected to a UPS or battery backup, so your lock stays active even during a power cut.
- Wiring Concealment: Nothing looks worse than hanging wires on a main gate. I use PVC casing to protect the signaling wires from rain and tampering, keeping the setup clean and long-lasting.
- Manual Override: Every system I install includes a physical key override. You never want to be locked out because of a technical glitch, so we always keep a reliable manual backup available.
Video Door Phones
If you want to see who is at your gate before you get up, we add a video door phone to the mix. These come with a 7-inch display for inside your home and a weather-proof camera unit for the outside. It allows for two-way audio communication, so you can talk to delivery agents or visitors without unlocking the door.
