Fun Brain Puzzles to Build Math Confidence

Maths should not be scary for our makkalu. We use these puzzles as a way to help children stop counting on fingers and start enjoying the logic behind numbers.

Here is a fun puzzle to make maths interesting. Can you figure out the logic and find the missing number? This is the kind of creative thinking we encourage in my classes.

Here is another puzzle for you to solve. Complete the equation using the numbers provided on the apples. Post your answers and let's see who can solve it.

Every puzzle has a solution, you just need to find the right perspective. This is the same puzzle as before, a good reminder that practice helps you see the solution faster.

About this collection

When makkalu walk into my class, they are often terrified of math. We use these puzzles as a warm-up, a 'Brain Gym' session, to show them that numbers are just patterns, not monsters. Once they realize they can solve a riddle on their own, that anxiety disappears, and they become much more open to learning real abacus techniques.

At our Basavanagudi center, we see this shift every day. A child comes in counting on their fingers and struggling to keep up with schoolwork. By introducing logic-based puzzles before we start our regular Vedic Maths or abacus drills, we change how they approach a problem.

Why do we do this? Because math is not just about memorizing formulas. It is about visualization and pattern recognition. Whether your child is 6 or 12, our methods help them:

  • Stop relying on fingers and start calculating mentally.
  • Improve focus and concentration during class.
  • Build the confidence to handle school exams without the usual stress.

We keep our batches small (10 to 15 kids for offline, 5 to 8 for online) so every child gets personal attention. My team, Annapoorna and Nagaratna, have been teaching these methods with me for over 10 years. We focus on the 'Sutra' method, which simplifies complex calculations into easy-to-learn steps.

If your child finds math difficult, come visit us in Basavanagudi. Seeing is believing—bring them for a trial class and watch them solve a problem they thought was impossible.
