How a Cake Smash Session Works
I treat every first birthday session like a mini party. We start with 'clean' portraits to capture those smiles before the cake arrives. Once the baby is comfortable, we bring out the cake. Some babies dig in immediately, others are more curious, and that is perfectly fine. I follow your baby's lead, ensuring they are never forced or rushed.
After the cake smash, I set up a mini-tub with warm water and bubbles. This acts as a fun finale where we get those iconic splash photos, and it helps get your baby cleaned up before heading home. It is a three-part process: portrait, smash, and splash.
