About The Handwoven Edit
Every piece in this collection is crafted using the 'Intrecciato' weaving technique, requiring 18 to 24 hours of manual labor per bag. Because we use vegetable-tanned leather rather than mass-produced hides, your bag will not just age—it will darken, soften, and develop a unique patina over time, becoming more personal the longer you carry it.
The Slow Art of Weaving
We don't use assembly lines. When you order a handwoven bag from Mistry, you are participating in a process that respects the artisan's time. Our women artisans in Chennai perform the intricate task of cutting, prepping, and weaving individual strips of leather into a single, cohesive form.
Why Vegetable-Tanned Leather?
Most mass-market bags are chrome-tanned for speed. We choose vegetable-tanned leather because it is the only material that respects the craft. It is stiffer at first, but it is a living material. As you carry your Gaia or Axel tote, the natural oils from your hands and the sunlight will interact with the leather, causing it to darken and soften. This is not wear and tear—this is the leather becoming yours.
Practical Care
Since these bags are unlined or feature removable inserts to showcase the weave, they are lighter than typical structured totes. However, they do require care. Keep them away from prolonged moisture and store them in the included cotton dust bag when not in use. If you are choosing between sizes, remember that our larger totes like the Axel are reinforced for daily essentials, while our smaller clutches are designed for lighter loads.

Can I get this in a different color? We work in small batches based on leather availability. The colors you see are the ones we have perfected for the current season.
