Obedience and Focus Training for Your Dog
Training isn't just about command and response. It's about building a connection where your dog chooses to listen to you, even when there are distractions around.
This is the result of consistent effort from the owner. You can see the clear transformation from a dog pulling hard on the leash to one walking calmly and attentively. This is what we work towards.
Meet Raja, the king of focus. Watch how he walks with a loose leash, completely ignoring other barking dogs and distractions on the road. His attention is on me, which is the core of our training.
It is never too late to train your dog, because it's really about training the owner. This video shows a husky learning to walk calmly on a leash, demonstrating that once you learn to connect with your dog, they will listen.
Recall is one of the most important commands your dog can learn. Here, I test the recall of several dogs at my boarding center. Seeing them come when called, one by one, shows the strong bond and respect we've built.
Running with your dog is a fantastic way to build focus and burn off excess energy. A tired dog is a happy and calm dog. Here you see how a structured run improves their leash manners and strengthens our bond.
This is my idea of a perfect morning. Walking a pack of dogs, all calm and in sync, requires trust and clear leadership. I can teach you how to handle your dog with the same confidence.
This smart Beagle, Duke, shows off his commands. He can sit, lie down, roll over, and even do 'namaste'. While I focus on behavior first, teaching fun tricks is a great way to continue building your bond.
The rule is simple: work, then reward. I make the dogs sit and wait calmly before they get a treat. If they jump, they get nothing. This teaches them impulse control and reinforces that good behavior earns rewards.
Look at this group of obedient dogs, including a Golden Retriever, Belgian Malinois, and German Shepherd, all waiting patiently for their treats. This shows that with clear rules, dogs of any breed can learn to be calm and polite.
About Obedience & Focus Training
Stop giving treats for free. I teach owners to make their dogs work for every reward—a sit, a calm wait, or simple eye contact. When you stop being a treat dispenser and start being a leader, the jumping stops and the real focus begins. This simple shift in mindset makes everything else, from leash walking to recall, much easier to manage at home.
Training the Owner, Not Just the Dog
Most people come to me saying their dog is 'disobedient.' The truth is, the dog is just confused. My approach at my HSR Layout center isn't about teaching fancy tricks; it's about communication. If your dog doesn't understand what you want, they can't give it to you. I train you to read your dog’s body language and set clear, consistent boundaries.
Why Focus Matters More Than Commands
I see so many dogs pulling on the leash, lunging at bikes, or ignoring their owners at the park. This isn't a stubbornness issue—it's a lack of engagement. We start by building focus. Once your dog learns to check in with you regularly, the distractions of the outside world lose their power. Whether we are practicing recall or loose-leash walking, the goal is for your dog to be more interested in you than the environment.
Practical, Real-World Training
- Leash Manners: No more shoulder aches. We work on techniques to stop pulling and ensure your walks are peaceful.
- Recall Training: Getting your dog to come when called is about safety and trust. We practice this in controlled settings before moving to busier areas.
- Impulse Control: Learning to wait for a meal or a treat teaches your dog to think before they act, which is vital for managing excitement and anxiety.
Training is a two-way street. If you are ready to put in the time to learn, your bachha will learn right along with you. It is never too late to start.
