Peak Fitness & Conditioning for Squash Players
Squash isn't just about the shot. To dominate the court, you need the engine to back it up. Here is how we build the stamina and explosiveness required to outlast your opponent.
Our Saturday morning fitness test on the track is a core part of the program. This video shows our players pushing their limits during sprints, with coaches providing encouragement and tracking progress.
An outdoor track session in progress. Our head coach provides instructions for reflex and speed drills, emphasizing the importance of off-court conditioning for on-court success.
A group of players listens intently as the coach outlines the day's fitness goals. We believe mental preparation and understanding the 'why' behind the work is just as important as the physical exertion itself.
About Peak Fitness & Conditioning
Our Saturday morning fitness tests on the track are the real deal. We do not just ask for laps, we run beep tests and sprint intervals that mimic the exact physical demand of a high-pressure match. If you train with us, expect to track your progress monthly, as we need to see those numbers move to know you are ready for tournament intensity.
Squash is often misunderstood as just a racket sport, but at the Padukone-Dravid Centre, we know it is a marathon with sprints. You can have the perfect backhand, but if your legs give out in the third set, the game is over. That is why our conditioning program is non-negotiable.
We break our conditioning into two zones. On-court, we use ghosting and pressure drills to train your nervous system for explosive, reflexive movement. Off-court, we hit the track for interval training, flying sprints, and agility work. We use standard benchmarks, like the Cooper test, to ensure you are actually improving rather than just tiring yourself out.
Nutrition and mental recovery are the other half of the battle. You cannot fuel a Ferrari with regular gas. We guide our athletes on proper nutrition for high-intensity recovery and teach mental pacing. Learning to breathe when your lungs are burning is a skill we practice every single session. Whether you are prepping for an SRFI tournament or just want to hold your own during long rallies, this conditioning is the difference between showing up and winning.
