Art for the People: Pencil Portraits of Everyday Heroes in Bangalore
I believe art is for everyone, not just museums. I take my sketchbook to the streets of Bangalore to capture the faces of the people who make our city run, one charcoal stroke at a time.
The pure joy on this security guard's face is everything. I often do these surprise sketches for people I meet. It is my way of spreading a little happiness.
A quick live sketch for the anna at the local tea shop. These small moments of connection are what fuel my passion as a travelling artist.
While stopping for petrol, I sketched the attendant. His reaction was so genuine and heartwarming. It's a reminder that art can bring a smile to anyone's face.
I sketched this amma at her fruit stall. It was a beautiful moment to capture her hard working spirit and then surprise her with this small gift.
A quick sketch for the lady working at the local Nandini shop. My goal is to find and share these happy moments through my public art.
Here is another security guard I had the pleasure of sketching. Capturing the expressions of the people who work silently around us is a project very close to my heart.
I drew this security officer from a photo I took. It's always a fulfilling experience to honor the people who keep our communities safe, one portrait at a time.
About Art for the People: My Gift to the Streets
These portraits are all about spontaneous, raw emotion. Whether it is a security guard, a local shop anna (brother), or a fruit seller, I capture their character in graphite and charcoal within minutes. I do not just sketch for money here, I hand these portraits over as a gift to brighten their day and share a moment of connection.
For me, the best canvas is the world outside my car window. While I do formal commissions, this specific cluster is my passion project. I travel across Ramanagara and Bangalore, looking for people with stories written on their faces.
Why I Sketch on the Streets
Street art for me is not about spray paint, it is about the honesty of a pencil sketch. When I approach a security guard or a vendor, I am looking to honor their daily hustle. A portrait is a small way to say I see you.
The Process
- Spontaneous: I work fast, using charcoal and graphite to capture the primary likeness and expression.
- Raw: There are no fancy studio lights. I use the natural light of the street, which creates high contrast and deep shadows, perfect for the realistic style I love.
- Connection: The joy people feel when they see themselves on paper is what keeps me going. It is a genuine reaction that you just cannot stage.
If you like this style of raw, expressive art, I bring this same energy to events. Whether it is a wedding, a birthday party, or an office gathering, I can set up a live sketching station to give your guests the same experience. They get to watch their portrait emerge in real-time, and they walk away with a hand-drawn keepsake. Let us create something real for your next event.
