Hand-drawn tribute portraits of Kannada cinema legends
I pour my admiration for our culture’s greatest icons into every sketch. These watercolor and pencil portraits are my humble way of keeping their stories alive.
My watercolor tribute to the beloved Powerstar, Puneeth Rajkumar. I chose a photo with his signature warm smile and used watercolors to create a soft yet lively portrait that I hope fans will appreciate.
A colored pencil portrait of Annavaru, Dr. Rajkumar, in his iconic 'Gandhada Gudi' look. I carefully layered colors to create the texture of the turban and capture his gentle expression, paying homage to a true son of the soil.
Here is my colored pencil artwork of Dr. Rajkumar from the classic film 'Sanadi Appanna'. I used colored pencils to get the rich tones of his costume and the details on the instrument. This realistic portrait style is perfect for capturing iconic characters.
This watercolor painting is my tribute to Vishnu Dada. I focused on a classic look of his, carefully painting the details of his face and suit. It's my small way of remembering the great actor.
Another portrait of the one and only Sahasasimha Vishnuvardhan, this time in watercolor. I wanted to capture the powerful look in his eyes and his signature mustache, which defined so many of his famous roles.
This is my watercolor portrait of Saalumarada Thimmakka, a living legend and an inspiration to all of us. I tried to capture her grace and the kindness in her eyes, creating a tribute to her incredible contribution to nature.
A pencil sketch tribute to the legendary on-screen couple, Vishnuvardhan and Suprabha. I kept the portrait in classic black and white but added a splash of red watercolor to the flower, symbolizing their timeless romance.
About Tributes to Kannada Legends
When I work on a tribute, I don't just trace a photo. I spend time choosing references that capture the 'real' person—like Puneeth Rajkumar’s signature smile or Dr. Rajkumar’s gentle gaze in Gandhada Gudi. For these, I often use a mix of watercolor layering and colored pencils to make sure the warmth in their eyes actually stands out on paper.
When you commission a tribute portrait, it is not just about getting a drawing. It is about the materials that make it last. For these legends, I prefer 300 GSM heavy-duty paper. It handles the water and pigment without buckling, so the portrait stays crisp for years.
If you have a specific legend, family hero, or even a local personality you want to honor, send me a clear reference photo. I will tell you if it works better as a sharp graphite sketch or a softer watercolor painting. Graphite is excellent for capturing the minute details—the wrinkles, the stubble, the texture of a turban—while watercolor brings that vibrant, living energy.
Frequently asked questions about my tribute art:
- Can I choose the size? Yes, I work on A4 and A3 sizes. A3 is usually better for portraits with more details or background elements.
- Do you frame the work? I ship the artwork rolled in a heavy-duty, crush-proof PVC tube. You get the original hand-signed piece, and you can get it framed locally in a style that suits your home decor.
- What if I want a different legend? I love working on new faces. Send me the photo, and let us see how we can bring it to life.
