Behind the Canvas: My Artistic Process
Painting isn't just about the final image on the wall. It is the messy, vibrant, and deeply personal journey that brings a piece of art into existence. Here is a peek into how I turn blank spaces into stories.
This video captures the beginning of my artistic process, which often starts outdoors. I find that being in nature helps me channel a calm and focused energy, which I then translate onto the blank canvas.
The aftermath of a creative session. I believe art is a full-body experience, and getting my hands messy with paint is part of the magic. This image shows an abstract background taking shape on the canvas, built layer by layer.
A proud moment for me, standing next to my work at a gallery exhibition. Seeing my art displayed and connecting with people who appreciate it is an incredibly rewarding part of being an artist.
About Behind the Canvas: My Process
Before I even touch a brush to your canvas or wall, we spend time talking about the energy you want in your space. Whether you are commissioning a graphite portrait or a 12-foot abstract mural, this initial consultation is how we align on the mood, the color palette, and the story the piece should tell.
Every painting I create is a collaboration. When you reach out, we start with a chat. If you are in Namma Bengaluru, we can meet to talk about the space, the light, and the vibe. If you are elsewhere in India, we jump on a call to bounce ideas around until we find the right direction.
The Mediums That Matter
- Canvas Work: For portraits and statement pieces, I use heavy-body acrylics on gallery-wrapped cotton canvas. This gives the art texture and longevity. I finish these with a double coat of varnish to protect against UV, moisture, and dust.
- Paper Portraits: For my pencil sketches, I exclusively use 180 GSM acid-free artist paper. These are finished with a professional fixative spray to ensure they don't smudge while traveling to you.
- Murals: My wall work ranges from nature scenes and Warli folk art to custom branding. I prefer working with textured finishes that bring a flat wall to life.
The Logistics
Shipping art is a sensitive process. For inter-city orders, large canvases are often shipped rolled in a sturdy tube to prevent frame damage, while smaller items and portraits are packed flat between reinforced hardboards. I want the piece to arrive in your hands exactly as it left mine. Let’s talk about your space—whether it is a boring office wall or a home corner that needs a little soul.
