Residential Garden Design in Mumbai & Thane
I transform empty villa yards and plain borders into living, green spaces. Here is a look at how I layer plants and textures to create a private, low-maintenance garden for your home.
This is the finished look for a residential project at Lodha Villa. I created a layered garden bed along the side of the house, using tall Areca Palms for height and colorful Crotons and other foliage plants for ground cover, all framed by a clean white pebble border.
Here is another angle of the Lodha Villa garden bed. The design provides a beautiful view from the windows and adds significant curb appeal to the property, transforming a plain exterior wall into a lush, tropical-style garden.
For this villa in Thane, I designed a colorful border along a paved walkway. I used a combination of bright yellow Duranta plants and variegated Spider Plants to create a striking contrast of color and texture that brightens up the path.
A well-designed planter can be a beautiful feature on its own. For this home, I built a raised planter with slate tiles to encircle a tree, filling it with blooming Peace Lilies that thrive in the shaded conditions.

About Residential Garden Design
When I design a residential garden, I prioritize plants that thrive in our local Mumbai climate while keeping long-term maintenance in mind. For projects like the Lodha Villa, I layered hardy Areca Palms with textured ground cover like Crotons to create immediate privacy and color. This ensures your garden looks finished on day one without needing constant replacement or complicated care.
My approach to residential landscaping is about making the most of the space you have, whether it is a villa perimeter or a small home garden. I do not believe in complicated, high-maintenance designs that fall apart after a month. Instead, I focus on the basics that matter: proper soil preparation, drainage, and selecting the right plant for the right spot.
My Process
When we start a project in Thane, Mumbai, or Navi Mumbai, the first step is always checking the site. A garden looks great on paper but needs to survive the local weather. I use a mix of local soil, cocopeat, and vermicompost to ensure the ground is healthy before we even plant a seed.
Plant Selection
I prefer using hardy varieties that handle the heat and humidity well. For borders, I often mix yellow Duranta with variegated Spider Plants to create that sharp color contrast you see in my work. For height and screening, Areca Palms and Dracaenas are my go-to choices because they grow well and stay green year-round. If you have a shaded area, I incorporate Peace Lilies, which add life without needing direct sunlight.
Maintenance
Most clients worry that a garden is a full-time job. I design my layouts to minimize work. I use stone or pebble borders to keep grass in check and make cleaning easier. If you want a garden that stays lush, I can also set up simple irrigation lines to keep everything watered while you are busy.
Whether you are looking to redo a walkway, fill an empty planter, or install a full lawn, I handle the execution from start to finish. I want you to step outside and actually enjoy the space, not just look at it.
