About Costume Design for Film & TV
What Drives My Costume Design
Costume design is pure storytelling for me. I get to shape a character’s journey with every shirt, every bangle, every color. You can figure out so much about someone just by looking at their clothes onscreen. I’m all about showing the messy, wild, and real parts of a character through what they wear.
How I Build a Character’s Look
I start with the script and dive into collaboration with directors and actors. We break down what makes the character tick, and every wardrobe choice is intentional. Moodboards, references from art and history, and the tiniest details matter. The visual identity has to fit their background and emotional arc, not just look cool.
Bit of My Work: Son of Sardaar 2
Designing for Ajay Devgn’s Jassi meant going from desi to army suave. We played with sharp silhouettes, color combos (Beetle Wing, Roasted Cashew - haan, asli shades!), and tailored fits. For Mrunal Thakur’s Rabia, I went wild with accessories, thrifted pieces, and designer finds - pura jhakaas (super cool), full-on electric energy.
Sourcing and Curation - The Treasure Hunt
I blend custom pieces, high-end designer labels, and local bazaar gems. Sometimes the best stuff comes from a tiny shop in Andheri or a thrift store in Goa. Sourcing costumes for movie sets is about finding that one thing that makes the character feel real.
Making it Work on Set
Once everything’s ready, I’m hands-on with my team, adjusting fits and working with makeup, hair, and camera squads. Getting the look right is a total team game - and yeah, it’s chaos, but the good kind.

My Story
I can’t keep calm when my work finally hits the screen, it’s wild! Last night, watching our movie with the whole mad cast and crew, I felt every laugh, every memory. You think it’s just glamour? Nah, it’s months of overpacking (100+ bags to the UK, I kid you not), sourcing in London and Scotland, and squeezing in brunch and manicures when we can. But honestly, nothing beats seeing these amazing talents shine and knowing we made magic together. This is my dream, and I’m living it.
