Wildlife & The Western Ghats Cinematography
I do not just film wildlife; I chase the stories hidden in the mist of the Western Ghats. From the giants in Kabini to the quiet rhythms of the forest, this is my lens on nature.
A touching video of a baby elephant playing in the water and refusing to leave its mother's side at an elephant camp. This is the kind of authentic wildlife moment I strive to capture.
An aerial shot revealing the Jungle Lodges resort in Kabini, nestled amidst dense forest and backwaters. This is perfect for resort and hospitality promotional films.
A dramatic aerial video showing an elephant charging towards the drone at the Sakrebyle camp. This clip highlights the risks and rewards of wildlife cinematography.
A top down drone view of elephants bathing in the river at Sakrebyle Elephant Camp. This offers a peaceful and unique perspective on the animals' daily routine.
An aerial view of the Dubare Elephant Camp in Coorg, showing the tents and the entire camp layout in a misty environment.
Aerial footage from Sakrebyle, showing elephants and their calves swimming and playing in the backwaters.
A heartwarming moment of a baby elephant playing with its mother in the waters of the Sakrebyle elephant camp. This clip highlights my ability to capture raw, emotional moments in wildlife documentary filmmaking.
About this collection
Wildlife cinematography requires more than just a camera. I once had a drone swatted by an elephant at Sakrebyle; it is part of the territory when you want that close, raw shot. I do not use long, safe telephoto lenses exclusively. I prefer getting low and staying patient, often using FPV drones to get right into the action, provided the safety of both the animals and the gear is managed.
My approach to wildlife is rooted in 'jivanada hudukata' — the search for life. It is not about perfect, catalog-style pictures; it is about the reality of the forest. When I shoot in places like Kabini or the backwaters near Dubare, I prefer early mornings or late evenings to catch the natural, moody light.
My kit includes Sony Mirrorless setups and specialized FPV drones. I do not set up staged scenes. Whether I am filming a family of langurs in the forest or elephants bathing in the river, I wait for the narrative to unfold naturally.
My work often takes me from the mist-covered hills of Chikkamagaluru to the dense canopies of the Western Ghats. If you need documentary footage or a cinematic short film that captures the soul of Karnataka’s wilderness, I bring the gear and the patience to get the shot. I understand the geography of our forests and follow ethical guidelines to ensure my presence does not disturb the animals.
Puneeth
I am Puneeth, an 'alemari' (wanderer). My camera and drone are my eyes to read the world. Whether I am trailing wildlife in the Western Ghats or chasing stories in our cities, I am just here to find a little bit of 'nemdi' (peace) and share the beauty of Namma Karnataka.
