This is a snapshot of our world at Samarpana Dance Academy. It shows the dedication of our students, the joy of performance, and the supportive community we build together. From a five year old's first steps on stage to a working professional's solo debut, every journey is celebrated.
Arangetram: The Solo Debut
The Arangetram is the most significant milestone, a student's solo debut performance after years of rigorous training. I have had the honor of guiding 67 students to this stage, choreographing the complete margam and often arranging for a live orchestra to make the event truly magical.
Salangai Pooja: The First Milestone
The Salangai Pooja is a student's first public performance and the sacred ceremony where they are formally given their ankle bells, or salangai. I choreograph this special event for students of all ages, marking their official beginning on the dance stage.
Our Dancers: Portraits & Photoshoots
Before a major performance, we often do a professional photoshoot. It helps the student get comfortable in their full costume and makeup, and the resulting portraits capture their unique personality and grace. These photos become cherished memories of their dance journey.
Academy Performances & Events
Beyond the main milestones, our students have many opportunities to perform. We hold an Annual Day with new themes each year, intimate studio concerts, performances at temples for festivals like Navaratri, and participate in public cultural events.
Behind the Stage: Practice & Preparation
A great performance is born from hours of unseen hard work. This is a look at the discipline, dedication, and joy that happens behind the scenes, from daily practice and makeup workshops to costume selection and music rehearsals.
Words from Our Samarpana Family
The journey of learning dance is a partnership between the Guru, the student, and their family. I am always so moved to hear from the parents and students of our Samarpana family, as they share their feelings of pride, joy, and gratitude.
My Journey as a Guru
My own journey in dance continues to shape me as a teacher. From my student days in Chennai to my daily practice now, I believe in staying connected to the art. Here, I share some of my personal memories, practice sessions, and my philosophy on dance.
