Tropical Retreats: Villas and Bungalows Landscape Design
We create landscapes that function as extensions of your villa, blending lush tropical flora with architecture to design your private, soulful sanctuary.
For the K House, we designed a landscape that actively participates in daily life. The home opens up to nature, inviting light, breeze, and greenery deep into its footprint, with a contemporary facade that shades the poolside from the tropical sun.
The view from the veranda of the K House looks out onto the pool and lush gardens. We used tall pillars to frame the landscape, creating a picturesque scene that blends architecture with the natural environment.
The large, open double veranda at K House was designed to allow a smooth transition from indoor to semi-outdoor to outdoor spaces. This creates an expansive living area that fully embraces the tropical landscape.
The rear view of the Ishtika house opens onto a manicured lawn. The design features a dramatic cantilevered box, and our landscape plan provides an open, green expanse that complements the home's strong architectural forms.
In this Alibaug project, the living space dissolves into the landscape. A covered pavilion with wide openings allows for uninterrupted views of the lawn and the surrounding grove of coconut palms.

We are grateful to have our Alibaug project, K House, featured in Architectural Digest. This home blends contemporary design with a tropical essence, and our landscape work was key to achieving that harmony.
A cinematic tour of the K-House in Alibaug. The landscape is an integral part of the experience, from the poolside gardens to the play of light and shadow through the architectural screens and surrounding trees.
This video showcases the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces at K House. The dining area flows directly onto the veranda, with the lush garden and pool always in view, embodying our philosophy of tropical living.

About Tropical Retreats: Villas & Bungalows
Our design process begins by looking at how you live in your villa. We analyze sightlines from your windows, the movement of the sun, and how you want to use your outdoor space. Whether we are framing a pool with tropical trees or creating a stone pathway through your garden, our focus is on ensuring the transition from your living room to your lawn feels seamless, so you can step outside and immediately feel the shift in atmosphere.
When designing for larger properties, we view the house not as an object placed in a yard, but as part of the existing ecosystem. This approach was central to our work at the K House in Alibaug, where we utilized tall, mature trees and multi-tier planting to integrate the architecture with the surrounding grove. By creating shade structures that cast intricate shadows, we keep the poolside cool and comfortable throughout the year.
The Technical Approach
Effective villa landscaping goes beyond just planting. We manage the fundamental site engineering to ensure your garden remains sustainable. This includes:
- Site Grading: Proper earthwork contouring for efficient storm-water management, vital for property longevity.
- Hardscaping: We use materials like cobblestone, gravel, and floating stone slabs to build driveways and pathways that stand up to the monsoon while looking natural.
- Water Features: For those seeking a resort feel, we construct reflective water bodies, lily ponds, or koi ponds that act as focal points, adding the sound of water to your sanctuary.
Our Process
We start with a site visit to perform a topography and light analysis. During the planning stage, we prepare detailed master layouts and planting schedules. This ensures that every plant chosen thrives in its specific location and that the irrigation systems, including pop-up sprinklers and zone-based piping, keep the greenery lush with minimal water waste. We treat your land as a living canvas, adding layers from canopy trees to ground cover, creating a property that evolves and grows with you.
