About Dramatic Black & White
When I shoot in black and white, it is usually because the emotion in the room is stronger than the setting itself. By removing color, I direct your attention entirely to the subject, whether it is a bride’s steady gaze, a mother’s touch, or a groom’s laugh. These images are not about applying a filter, but about isolating the raw, human connection that makes a wedding significant.
I often find that vibrant colors, while beautiful, can sometimes distract from the core of the moment. In a busy Indian wedding with heavy decor and bright attire, a monochromatic edit creates a sense of stillness.
I reserve these edits for moments that demand focus. It works exceptionally well for 'getting ready' shots where the lighting is soft and the focus is on details like jewelry or a quiet reflection before the chaos begins. It also works for high-intensity rituals, where the expressions of family members tell a deeper story than the surroundings.
My process involves selecting frames where the lighting contrast is naturally high. This creates depth and dimension that color sometimes flattens. When you look back at your wedding gallery years from now, these black and white frames will likely feel the most classic and unchanging. They serve as a visual anchor, keeping the emotion of the day front and center.
