About Designer Pots: Metal, Ceramic & Terracotta
The material of your pot matters just as much as the plant inside. We often see people struggle with heavy ceramic pots that can’t be moved easily or metal ones that lack drainage holes for indoor use. When you look through these, check if you need a plastic nursery liner inside or a drainage tray to catch water spills—we’re happy to help you figure out what works best for your specific room so you don't end up damaging your floors.
Choosing the right pot is a balance between your interior decor theme and the health of your plant. Here is a simple guide to help you pick:
Ceramic & Concrete
These are fantastic for moisture retention. If you have a plant that loves damp soil, ceramic is a great choice. They are stable, don't tip over easily, and come in beautiful finishes like marble or textured stone. Just ensure you use a pot with a drainage hole, or keep the plant in a plastic nursery pot inside the decorative ceramic shell.
Metal Planters
Perfect for a modern, clean look. Our metal planters often come with sleek stands, which are excellent for lifting plants off the floor to create different height levels in a room. Because metal doesn't breathe, it's essential to use a proper liner inside to prevent rust and root rot. These are lightweight and easy to move if you like redecorating often.
Terracotta & Clay
The classic choice for a reason. Terracotta is porous, meaning it lets the roots breathe and absorbs excess water. This makes it ideal for succulents, snake plants, and other drought-tolerant varieties. If you are a first-time gardener or tend to overwater, terracotta is your safest bet.
Pro-Tip for Mangalore Homes
Since our humidity can be high, airflow is key. Regardless of the material, try not to place pots directly on wooden furniture without a waterproof tray or a stand. We always recommend checking the plant's root ball size before buying; if it's tight in its current nursery pot, go one or two inches wider in diameter for the new one to give it room to grow.
Our Balcony Garden
We are Prajwal and Poornima, the husband-and-wife team behind Our Balcony Garden. We believe your pots should be as beautiful as the plants themselves, so we personally select designs that fit into a home rather than looking like they belong in a greenhouse.
