Bharatanatyam Solo Recitals and Rangapravesha
Watching my students step onto the stage alone is my proudest moment. From their first Gejjepuje to their debut Rangapravesha, I guide them through every step of this divine journey.
A powerful 'aramandi' stance by my senior disciple Vidushi Anushree Bhat during her solo concert for the ICCR's 'Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme'. This is the foundational posture in Bharatanatyam.
Another dynamic pose from the same ICCR performance, showcasing the dancer's control and grace. We train students to achieve this level of perfection for their solo careers.
A graceful movement captured during the ICCR recital. Solo performances allow a dancer to fully explore the nuances of 'abhinaya' (expression) and 'nritta' (pure dance).
A beautiful leg lift, demonstrating the flexibility and strength required for advanced Bharatanatyam. I am so proud of the hard work my students put in.
A full-length view of the dancer on stage, showing the beautiful drape of the traditional costume and the confident stage presence we cultivate in our students.
A video clip of another student, Kum. Avani, performing her solo piece for the 'Every Friday' program. Each student brings her own unique personality to the dance.
A 'Save the Date' promo for the first-ever Duet Bharatanatyam Rangapravesha from our institution. We provide complete support for our students' debut performances, from choreography to promotion.
A clip from my student Bharghavi's solo concert, 'Nrithyankura'. We organize these smaller concerts to give budding artists a platform to showcase their talent.
My student Sanjana performing a solo piece at the 'Nrithyadhare' festival. These opportunities are crucial for building a young dancer's confidence and stagecraft.
A solo performance of 'Samvidhana Saathi'. We also choreograph pieces on contemporary and patriotic themes for specific events.
About Student Showcases & Solo Recitals
When I prepare a student for a solo recital, I do not just teach the steps. We focus heavily on the abhinaya (expression) and building the stamina required to hold the stage alone for 30 minutes. Whether it is an ICCR programme or a family event, my goal is to ensure they perform with the same grace and discipline I was taught, even when the nerves kick in.
My makla (students) aren't just performing; they are carrying forward a legacy. Preparing for a solo recital or a Rangapravesha is a process of deep dedication. We work intensely on the adavus—I am notoriously strict here because, in Bharatanatyam, perfection in form is where the beauty starts.
But the real work happens in the abhinaya. A solo dancer has nowhere to hide; they must hold the audience's attention, tell the story, and maintain the rhythm for 20 to 30 minutes. I help them select pieces that fit their personality, ensuring the pushpanjali, devotional pieces, and mangalam flow seamlessly.
We provide full support for these events: choreography, music selection, and guiding the look—from traditional Kanjeevaram styling to the temple jewelry and ghungroo placements. We have seen my students shine on platforms like the ICCR 'Every Friday' series and our own 'Nrithyadhare' festivals. It is a proud moment for me when they stand tall, but it is the result of hours of practice at our JP Nagar and Chamrajpet studios. Let us talk if you are planning a debut or a special recital—we will make sure it is an event that truly honors the art form.
