Hands-On Science & Nature Activities for Kids
Science isn't about textbooks here. We get messy with soil, observe volcanoes, and explore the wonders of nature—helping children connect with the world through real, tactile experiences.
A sunny morning spent making a volcano erupt outdoors. This classic science experiment is a thrilling way to learn about chemical reactions in a safe and supervised setting.
The satisfying crunch of crushing eggshells under our feet. This sensory activity is the first step in preparing natural calcium to enrich the soil for our gardening projects.
Children work together, using small shovels to mix the crushed eggshells into the soil. This collaborative activity teaches them about teamwork and caring for the earth.
With intense focus, a child uses a trowel to combine soil and eggshells. This practical work develops fine motor skills and an understanding of composting and soil health.
We begin our journey of discovery with Montessori's First Great Story, the tale of the universe's birth. This sparks cosmic curiosity in our elementary children.
A teacher engages the children with the story of the universe, using a model volcano to illustrate Earth's formation. Storytelling makes complex scientific ideas accessible and exciting.
Stomping on newspaper-covered eggshells is a fun and effective way to prepare them for the soil. It's a perfect example of our joyful, hands-on approach to learning.
About this collection
When we talk about science, we really mean getting our hands dirty. Take our recent gardening project: instead of just planting seeds, the children spent the morning stomping on dried eggshells to prepare natural calcium for the soil. It is a sensory, messy process that teaches them exactly where nutrients come from, far more effectively than a classroom diagram ever could.
We believe that curiosity is the spark for all learning. At our Sarjapur Road campus, science does not happen behind a desk. Whether we are erupting vinegar-and-soda volcanoes to understand chemical reactions or observing the life cycle of microgreens, the goal is always to build a bridge between the child and the natural world.
In our Montessori environment, we introduce complex ideas through tangible, age-appropriate activities. Our 'First Great Story' sessions, for instance, use models to explain the universe's evolution, transforming abstract concepts into stories that stick. We embrace the 'mess' because that is where the real work happens. When children mix soil, crush eggshells for fertilizer, or handle tools in the garden, they develop fine motor skills and a sense of responsibility. This is experiential learning at its best—children do not just learn about the environment, they interact with it.
Our outdoor artificial turf playground allows for this freedom of movement and discovery, even in the heart of the city. We guide the kids, but they lead the inquiry, asking the 'why' and 'how' that define the scientific mind. Whether it is a quiet moment observing a plant or the excitement of a messy garden project, science here is about making the world tangible, one discovery at a time.
Nivriti Montessori
At Nivriti, we are more than a school; we are a community of curious learners. Our mentors, all AMI-certified, are here to guide your child through these discoveries, not just instruct them. We believe the best foundation for a child is a blend of freedom, hands-on activity, and a lot of laughter.
