Featured Residential Design & Architecture
We are a Bombay-based design crew who believes that a home is a lived story, not just a set of walls. Here is a look at how we blend architecture with a bit of playfulness, from grand villas to city apartments.
This double-height living room in our Rehethaan project captures our love for dramatic volumes, natural light, and art. The space is defined by its grotto-inspired architecture, grand arched windows, and a stunning, custom-designed leaf installation that feels like it's floating in mid-air.
For our Kolam Pop project, we brought traditional South Indian aesthetics into a modern Mumbai home. The central courtyard features a custom-designed Oonjal, or swing, turning a simple transitional space into the heart of the home, perfect for family connection.
We believe bathrooms should be an escape. This master bathroom features a unique cylindrical shower cubicle, where a playful dance of colorful mosaic tiles and glass blocks creates a space that feels both luxurious and deeply personal.
A bedroom should be a reflection of its owner's dreams. In this junior master suite, we collaborated with an artist to create 'Love is a Wave,' a hand-crafted wall installation that transforms the room into a serene, meditative, and art-filled sanctuary.
We call this kitchen from our Gingham Dreams project a 'snowy wonderland.' It proves that a functional space can also be a statement piece, featuring a monolithic island in Lake Placid quartzite, a Japanese-inspired lightbox, and pristine white cabinetry.
Details are where the story lives. This sculptural staircase is more than just a way to move between floors; it's a celestial experience, with an installation of wooden and marble spheres that hang like a confetti carnival within the marble-clad stairwell.
In our Soft Serve apartment, we explored the Japanese concept of 'Seijaku' or tranquil stillness. The living space is a sequence of intersecting circles and curves, creating a calm, hypnotic visual in a palette of soft, monolithic tones.
We decided to have a little fun and film a mockumentary for our Rehethaan project. It captures the home's essence, our collaborative relationship with our clients, and our belief that design should never take itself too seriously.
The architecture of our Rehethaan villa is a fusion of Mediterranean and Mid-Century styles. The clean white facade is punctuated by a series of arches and large wooden windows, creating a timeless and inviting multigenerational residence.
We are Huzefa and Jasem, the partners behind MuseLAB. Our 20-year friendship is the foundation of our studio, built on a shared passion for creating thoughtful, story-driven spaces and a collaborative, non-hierarchical approach to design.
About Featured
You’ll notice we don’t chase cookie-cutter trends. Instead, we start by asking about your favourite books, travels, or poems. That’s because we believe your home should feel like a narrative you’ve authored, which is exactly why you might find a sculptural staircase, a swing in the living room, or even an ice cream station tucked into our layouts. We’re here to design for the life you actually lead, not just the aesthetic you think you want.
It Starts With a Story
At MuseLAB, we don’t just design spaces; we co-author them with you. Whether it’s a 14,000 sq. ft. villa in Gandhidham like 'Rehethaan' or a modern apartment in Thane, our process remains rooted in the same curiosity. We look for the 'Seijaku'—that sense of tranquil stillness—even in the middle of a noisy city.
The MuseLAB Approach
- Design with a Wink: We love the unconventional. A kitchen that’s a 'snowy wonderland,' or a double-height living room with a custom leaf installation. If it sparks joy, it belongs in the design.
- Tactile Symphony: We play with materials like warm teak, cool stone, and brass to create interiors that feel as good as they look.
- No Bosses, Just Collaborators: We work as a collective. When you come to us, you’re not just hiring architects; you’re bringing on a team that values your perspective as much as our technical experience.
Why We Do It
We’ve spent the last 20 years refining a process that prioritises deep listening. By the time we sketch a line, we’ve already learned what makes your home feel personal—whether it’s traditional Kolam motifs or modern Japanese-inspired lightboxes. We build homes that are one-offs, designed to hold your specific memories, quirks, and habits.
