Our Design Process: How We Turn Stories into Spaces
We don’t just design rooms. We listen to your stories—from your favourite poems to childhood memories—and weave them into the fabric of your home.
A snapshot of us, the design duo behind MuseLAB. Our partnership is built on 20 years of friendship, and our process is a constant dialogue between ideas, banter, and a shared passion for creating thoughtful and engaging designs.

In this clip, we talk about our studio culture. We believe in listening to our team and working with them as colleagues, not employees. This collaborative approach allows for fresh perspectives and is key to our creative process.
We believe inspiration can come from anywhere: a poem, a favorite holiday, or a book. This video touches on our playful approach to design and how we seek out personal narratives from our clients to create spaces that are truly meaningful.
We created this mockumentary-style film to capture the spirit of our 'Rehethaan' project. It’s a fun, behind-the-scenes look at the chaos, the collaboration with our amazing clients, and the stories that shaped this home.
This 'Into the Grain' feature by Asian Paints follows us through one of our favorite projects. We discuss our playful approach, our love for wood as a material, and how we collaborate with artisans like the Channapatna toy makers to create unique pieces.
A quick tour of the foyer at our Rehethaan project, where we explain the design thinking behind the custom Kutch-inspired doors, the water court view, and the separate entrance to the home office.
Follow along as we take you through the double-height living room at Rehethaan. We highlight the grotto-inspired architecture, the custom leaf-like light installation, and the various sculptures and art pieces we commissioned for the space.
In this video, we guide you through the L-shaped foyer and staircase of our Rehethaan project. We explain how we used art, lighting, and material to create an experiential gallery, turning a simple corridor into a journey of discovery.
About Our Process & Philosophy
Most designers start by asking about your square footage. We start by asking about a book you loved or a holiday you enjoyed. This isn't just a quirky icebreaker; it is how we uncover the narrative core of your home. By understanding what moves you, we avoid cookie-cutter layouts and create spaces that actually feel like they belong to you, rather than just a design magazine.
How We Build Your Home
We Listen, Then Design Our process is rooted in dialogue. We find that inspiration rarely comes from just the world of architecture. Whether it is a line from a poem or the memory of a family meal, we use your personal anecdotes as the blueprint for your space. We want to know the 'why' behind your need for a new living room before we touch a single tile.
A Non-Hierarchical Studio At MuseLAB, we don’t do the 'boss and employee' dynamic. We operate as a collective of curious colleagues. When you work with us, you are getting the combined perspective of a team that is constantly trying to outdo its previous projects. We value the fresh ideas our team brings to the table just as much as our own experience.
Collaboration Over Competition We believe the best results happen when we share. We frequently collaborate with a tribe of independent artists and artisans—like the wood sculptors we work with for our custom furniture—to ensure every piece in your home has a soul. From the custom handles on a wardrobe to the way a light fixture is positioned, these details are born from shared ideas, not a factory catalog.
Playful, Never Serious We are a bunch of Bombay-based designers who think it is crucial not to take ourselves too seriously. We aren't interested in competing with the rest of the fraternity. Our only goal is to make sure your home is a lived story, full of personality and perhaps a touch of whimsy, whether that is a hidden detail in a cabinet or an unconventional use of materials.
MuseLAB
We are Huzefa and Jasem, the duo behind MuseLAB. We are a bunch of Bombay-based designers who think it is important not to take ourselves too seriously. We would rather hear about your favourite holiday than your budget spreadsheets on day one.
