About From Sketch to Stitch: The Complete Design Process
Most studios jump straight to stitching, but I insist on draping every piece on a dress form first. It is the only way to catch fit issues before the fabric is cut. Whether it is an Anarkali or a western gown, this step ensures that when you put it on, it feels like it was made for your body alone, with no need for last-minute adjustments.
The Journey of a Design
Fashion is not just about what you wear, but how it is constructed. My process in the studio starts long before we touch a sewing machine.
1. Illustration and Concept Everything begins on the page or the tablet. I teach my students and guide my clients through fashion illustration, which is the bridge between imagination and reality. We visualize the silhouette, the fall of the fabric, and the intricate details like sequins or Zardosi work before we make a single cut.
2. Pattern Making and Fabric Selection Fabric choice can make or break a design. In our Rohini studio, I guide you through selecting materials—from lightweight cottons for summer dresses to rich silks for bridal wear. We then create paper patterns, the true backbone of any quality garment. You cannot get a perfect fit without precise drafting.
3. Construction and Finishing This is where the magic happens. Whether you are learning construction techniques or getting a piece stitched for an event, we focus on the details. From invisible zippers to perfect piping, these are the elements that separate a generic outfit from a piece of art.
My studio is a working space, not a classroom, so you see the industry flow—from taking measurements to the final dispatch. If you are here to learn, you will be working with industrial Juki machines, not just theory. If you are here to get an outfit made, you are watching your idea come to life in the same way we train our designers. That is the transparency I promise.
