The Art of Symmetry: Cinematic Framing in Mumbai
Symmetrical framing is how I find order in the beautiful chaos of Mumbai. I use natural lines, reflections, and architecture to turn everyday structures into cinematic visuals.
The beauty of symmetry through the lens. This shot of the CST building, perfectly reflected in a monsoon puddle, is the ultimate example of symmetrical composition.
Finding beauty in symmetry. The grand steps and pillars of the Asiatic Society Library in Mumbai create a powerful, symmetrical image, especially on a wet, reflective road.
The repeating patterns of windows and arches on this old building create a wonderful sense of symmetry and rhythm, with a passing cyclist adding a touch of life.
The Bandra-Worli Sea Link at sunset offers a perfect example of natural symmetry. The 'A' shape of the pylon stands out beautifully against the golden sky.
The leading lines and symmetrical structure of this railway station footbridge guide the eye directly to the lone figure walking away, creating a strong narrative.
The corner of this building in South Bombay shows a beautiful interplay of lines and angles. I'm always looking for these interesting architectural compositions.
About The Art of the Frame
My process starts with finding the right geometry before the light changes. I often use anamorphic lenses to widen the frame and capture that authentic movie-like feel, even in the middle of a busy South Bombay street, ensuring every shot feels intentional.
Photography isn't just about clicking a button. For me, it's about hunting for lines and balance that catch the eye immediately. Whether it's the reflection of the CST building in a monsoon puddle or the heavy, rhythmic pillars of the Asiatic Society, I look for structures that speak.
My Technique
I believe in using the environment, not changing it. I look for natural leading lines in railway footbridges or the distinct architecture of old Bombay to draw the viewer into the frame. When shooting, I carry a setup that keeps me agile: an iPhone 15 paired with an anamorphic lens for those cinematic flares, or my drone when I need to capture the scale of a cityscape from above.
Why Symmetry Works
There is a deep sense of satisfaction in a balanced frame. It turns a chaotic Mumbai intersection into a scene from a film. I don't wait for the perfect, empty street. Instead, I incorporate the movement of cyclists or commuters to add life to the symmetry. If you want your visual story to feel polished and cinematic, we should focus on these architectural details that often go unnoticed.

Avinash
I'm Avinash, just a guy with a camera, looking for stories in symmetry. I don't just take pictures; I hunt for that one balanced frame where everything clicks, whether it's a monsoon puddle in Mumbai or a mountain road.
