Competition is more than just the final fight. It is the journey, the camaraderie, and the discipline we build together from Delhi to Tamil Nadu.

The journey begins. Our team is excited as we set off for the national karate tournament in Tamil Nadu, joined by the team from Uttarakhand.

A selfie with my students at the railway station before boarding the train to Tamil Nadu. The excitement for the competition is clearly visible.

At the Kacheguda station with a fellow Sensei. Collaborating with other academies is a great way to build a stronger Kyokushin community.

Our team and the Uttarakhand team together in the train compartment. The long journey is a great opportunity for students from different dojos to bond.

Everyone is in high spirits inside the train. These journeys teach students independence and teamwork off the mat as well.

My students relaxing in their berths during the long train ride. It is a mix of rest, fun, and anticipation for the tournament ahead.

Glimpses from our train journey. Students pass the time playing games and chatting, building camaraderie that will help them support each other during the competition.

A candid moment during our travels. These trips are about more than just fighting; they are about experiencing the country and growing as individuals.

Some fun moments from our journey to the south. The boys are enjoying the view from the train door, a classic part of any Indian train adventure.

On our way to the tournament venue in Tamil Nadu, we stopped to visit a historic Shani temple. It was a peaceful and spiritual start to our day.

About National Tournament Journeys

My job does not end at the dojo door. When I take my students on national tournament trips, they learn that a true martial artist remains disciplined even during long train journeys. They handle their own gear, stay mindful of their diet, and support their teammates, building bonds that last far longer than the tournament itself.

For me, taking my students from our Badarpur academy in Delhi to national tournaments like the one in Tamil Nadu is one of the most important parts of their training. It is where the lessons of respect and endurance move from the mat to real life.

Why Travel Matters

We do not just go to compete. We go to learn independence. Whether it is navigating the train network, sharing meals with teams from other states like Uttarakhand, or visiting local cultural sites, these trips teach students how to be responsible. A karate student must be prepared for anything, and these journeys test their patience and their ability to stay calm under pressure.

The Karate Family Spirit

These tournaments are where the 'family' feeling truly comes alive. You will see my senior and junior students helping each other, sharing space in the train compartments, and ensuring everyone eats properly to keep their energy high for the competition. It is 'Osu' in action. We do not just show up to win, we show up to represent our academy with dignity and support each other every step of the way.

Practical Discipline

Even while traveling, we maintain our discipline. We choose healthy food to stay fueled, we keep our uniforms clean, and we respect the local places we visit. These tournament journeys are not holidays, but they are a vital part of the Kyokushin karate lifestyle, teaching our students that they belong to a much larger community beyond our academy walls.

Osu! I am Sensei DharmPal, and at Mas Oyama Karate Academy, I believe we are training for life, not just for medals. When we travel for tournaments, I am not just a coach, but a guardian ensuring these kids learn the value of discipline, respect, and camaraderie while experiencing the world.
