PSA Decoy Training: Precision and Protection Skills
As an Apprentice Decoy at the Capital Dogs PSA Club, I focus on the precision and control required to build protection dogs. This is where I refine my craft to ensure every dog I work with develops the confidence and grip mechanics they need for the ring.
The right equipment is crucial for safety and performance. This video shows the difference a professional-grade Demanet bite suit makes in my ability to move and effectively work with the dogs.
Putting in the repetitions as an Apprentice Decoy. Each catch is an opportunity to refine my technique and help the dog improve its targeting and confidence.
At Capital Dogs PSA Club, every repetition is accountable. Here I am working as an apprentice decoy, focusing on perfect practice to help build stronger dogs and handlers for the sport in India.
A great training session in Pune with fellow decoys and handlers. The opportunity to work with different dogs and learn from other trainers is invaluable to my growth in the sport.
Working a powerful Malinois in a full bite suit. My role as a decoy is to be a challenging, but fair, training partner that builds the dog's skill and confidence.
About My Journey as a PSA Decoy
Working as a decoy is not just about taking bites, it is about being a predictable, fair partner for the dog. I use professional-grade gear like the Demanet bite suit to carefully manage pressure, ensuring the dog builds correct grip mechanics and targeting without unnecessary stress.
PSA decoy work is the backbone of a solid protection dog. When I am in the suit, my job is to be the 'prey' that the dog learns to engage correctly. We follow the principle of Perfect Practice at Capital Dogs PSA Club, which means every movement I make is intentional. If I move too fast or too slow, I ruin the dog's timing. The goal is to develop a confident working dog that understands how to manage stress, whether it is for sport or real-world protection scenarios. My journey as an apprentice decoy has taught me that the dog's success in the ring is a reflection of the decoy's ability to facilitate that engagement. It is not about fighting the dog. It is about communication. We focus on bite suit work, civil agitation, pressure testing, and obedience under arousal. This requires high-drive dogs like Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds. For owners, understanding this process helps you see why specialized equipment and rigorous decoy training are non-negotiable for protection work. 'India da coat pana hai' is the dream, and that takes serious mehnat from both the decoy and the dog handler.
