About Classic Monochrome
Stripping away color changes how we approach a shoot. It forces us to rely entirely on lighting, contrast, and the texture of the wardrobe to tell the story. Because of this, my monochrome work often involves more precise studio lighting to sculpt facial features and skin. If you are planning a series, we need to discuss the mood and textures beforehand so we can set the light ratios correctly.
Black and white photography is not just about removing color in post-production. It is a deliberate choice to remove distractions. When we shoot monochrome, the focus shifts to composition, shadows, and the subject's expression. This is why I often collaborate closely with a stylist to ensure fabrics and makeup have the right contrast to stand out against the backdrop.
The Technical Approach
In my studio sessions, I use specific lighting setups to create depth. Whether it is hard light to emphasize dramatic angles or soft, diffused light for a more intimate portrait, the gear and technique change to suit the vision. We will often do a test shoot or mood board review to align on whether you want a high-contrast look that feels modern and sharp, or a softer, grain-focused aesthetic that feels classic and cinematic.
Why Choose This Style
Monochrome images have a longevity that color photography sometimes lacks. They fit perfectly into high-end editorial layouts for magazines, professional actor portfolios, or personal brand lookbooks where you want to project a sophisticated image.
Collaborative Process
Every shoot is a team effort. Even for a studio portrait, I rely on professional makeup artists and hair stylists to manage the details that show up differently in black and white. If you are an influencer or an actor looking to update your portfolio, let's discuss your brand identity. I work with production managers and creative teams to ensure the final output is clean, high-resolution, and ready for print or digital media.
