Black and White Photography for Timeless Portraits
Monochrome photography is not about removing color. It is about stripping away the noise to find the soul in a face or the quiet intensity of a moment.

About The Black & White Collection
I do not simply desaturate my files to create these images. My black and white aesthetic relies on specific, high-contrast lighting setups that emphasize texture and depth, qualities that are often lost in color. When we choose a monochrome session, we are intentionally manipulating shadows and highlights to frame your features, creating a portrait that feels like a still from a classic film.
When the vibrant colors of a wedding or a fashion editorial are stripped away, what remains is the raw, unadulterated connection between subjects. I grew up with poetry and cinema that favored mood over spectacle, and that is what I bring to my monochrome work. Whether I am shooting a portrait in a dimly lit studio or a candid moment at a Kolkata wedding, my goal is to make the viewer pause.
The Monochrome Process
My approach to black and white photography focuses on form, composition, and the 'Chokher Bali' vibe—a style that is dramatic, soulful, and deeply traditional. I use grain to add a layer of nostalgia, ensuring that the final image does not just look old, but feels timeless. For couples, monochrome enhances the intimacy of a forehead-to-forehead pose or a quiet embrace, removing the distraction of clothing patterns or background colors.
Why Choose This Style?
- Focus: It draws attention directly to the subject's expression and eyes.
- Drama: High-contrast lighting creates a cinematic quality perfect for editorial-style photoshoots.
- Timelessness: A well-composed black and white photograph does not date. It remains as relevant in ten years as it is today.
If you have a vision that requires a moody, artistic, or dramatic narrative, let us collaborate. I work across various locations in Kolkata, using natural light and professional modifiers to ensure the black and white output is crisp, grainy, and full of soul.
