Nostalgia-Inspired Board Game Tile Designs
We brought the geometry and rhythm of childhood games like Pallankuli and Carrom onto ceramic surfaces, blending tactile memory with modular tile design.
The design process for our Pallankuli tiles started with the game's symmetrical, flowing curves. We translated this movement into modular patterns that echo the way seeds are passed from hand to hand, creating a gentle, organic rhythm.
From board to surface. We abstracted the pockets, spacing, and repetition of the Pallankuli board into a modern design language. The result is a tile pattern rooted in the memory of play but built for contemporary surfaces.
The warm, tactile color palette for the Pallankuli collection was drawn from materials associated with the game itself. We thought of terracotta floors, clay counters, and carved wood to create a surface that feels calm, grounded, and nostalgic.
For the Carrom tile series, we focused on the geometry of play. The board's strong symmetry and directional lines influenced the modular structure of the tile, creating a system that is simple, clear, and easy to adapt across different surfaces.
From game to grid. Key elements of the Carrom board, like the central striker, clean borders, and corner pockets, were reinterpreted into graphic patterns. These visual references translate into tile designs that offer both visual order and a sense of movement.
This tile design connects back to the shared experience of playing Carrom in spaces where people gather. The familiar forms bring a sense of nostalgia, while the material and modularity make it suitable for modern applications in floors, walls, or inlays.

About Nostalgia on Walls: The Board Game Tile Collection
Designing these tiles is a precise technical exercise. We convert the organic shapes of Pallankuli and the rigid symmetry of Carrom into modular grids, ensuring every pattern can be manufactured as a consistent, repeatable design that fits your wall or floor layouts perfectly.
When we started this collection with Trove, our goal was to capture the rhythm of slow afternoons. Pallankuli, with its symmetrical curves, allowed us to experiment with elongated forms. Carrom, by contrast, demanded clean lines and strict geometry. By mapping these patterns onto ceramic, we moved beyond decoration. These tiles are functional components for your home.
Each piece is designed to be part of a larger system. Whether you are planning a feature wall or a unique floor inlay, our modular approach means you control the density and flow of the design. We focus heavily on the technical drawings that go to the manufacturer, ensuring that the relief depth and glaze color match the warmth of the materials we love, like clay and terracotta.
If you are looking for surfaces that carry a personal narrative, we can adapt these geometric concepts to your space. We provide full production drawings and can assist with the installation guide, ensuring the final result matches the vision we layout in our mood boards.
