This short video covers the core pillars of plant care. From choosing plants based on the light in your home to the importance of regular pruning, these are the basics we practice every day.

Caring for a plant is a simple, rewarding process. It all starts with quality soil, followed by wise watering and the right fertilizer. This simple illustration breaks down the three pillars of plant parenthood.

The easiest way to know if your plant needs water is to feel the soil. If the top inch is dry, it's time to water. This is a simple but crucial step in preventing both over and underwatering.

The most common mistake we see is overwatering. This image of a watering can and a healthy plant reminds us to check how much water a plant truly needs before giving it a drink.

About this collection

Most of the plants we see struggling in our Delhi NCR maintenance visits are suffering from overwatering, not neglect. A simple habit that changes everything is to check the soil moisture before watering. Stick your finger an inch into the soil; if it feels even slightly damp, wait another day. That pause lets roots breathe and is the single most effective way to prevent root rot at home.

Understanding Your Garden's Needs

Proper plant care is less about rigid schedules and more about observation. Every home in Delhi has different microclimates, and understanding yours is the first step to a thriving garden.

The Light Factor

Light is fuel for your plants. A ZZ plant or Snake plant might be happy in a corner with indirect light, but if you have a flowering variety or herbs, they need that bright spot near the balcony or window. If your plant is 'legging out' (growing long, thin stems), it is reaching for light. Move it closer to a window, but watch for harsh afternoon sun that might scorch leaves.

The Watering Balance

As mentioned, overwatering is the enemy. However, different seasons require different approaches. During Delhi's dry summer, your pots will dry out faster and need checking daily. In the monsoon or winter, evaporation slows down, and you might only need to water once or twice a week. Always ensure your pots have drainage holes—if water sits at the bottom, it kills roots quickly.

Pruning and Maintenance

Think of pruning as a haircut. Removing yellow, dead, or diseased leaves helps the plant direct its energy into new, healthy growth instead of trying to save dying tissue. If you see a branch that is growing wild or looks weak, trim it just above a leaf node. This encourages the plant to bush out and grow fuller.

Soil Health

Plants eat from the soil. If your plants look stunted even with good light and water, the soil might be depleted. Every few months, we recommend loosening the top inch of soil (we call it 'gudai') and adding a handful of vermicompost or organic manure to replenish nutrients. This ensures your garden stays vibrant year-round.
