Handcrafted Abstract Coasters: Functional Art for Your Home
I believe art belongs on your table, not just on your walls. These concrete coasters are my way of bringing messy, colourful, and honest expression into your daily routine.
A set of four handmade coasters, each with a completely unique abstract design in primary colors. They are coated with resin for a glossy, durable finish. These are a fun way to add art to your home.
A close-up of one of the coasters, showing the bold stripes of red, yellow, and blue. The finishing touches are so important to make these pieces not just beautiful but also durable.
Another angle on the coasters, showing the glossy resin top coat. They are made from concrete, giving them a nice weight and feel.

About Art for Everyday Life: Functional Pieces
Think of these as little functional canvases rather than just coasters. Because I make them with heavy-duty concrete and seal them with heat-resistant epoxy resin, they have a solid weight and a smooth, glass-like finish that stands up to your morning coffee or evening wine. Every set I pour is unique, so you are getting a one-off mini-painting, not a generic factory print. Just wipe them clean after use and they stay looking brand new.
Why Functional Art?
I often find that art is treated as something too precious to touch. I wanted to change that. By turning my acrylic pouring experiments into functional pieces like coasters, I get to see my work used every day rather than just sitting on a gallery wall. It is the small details that make a home feel lived in, and these pieces are designed for exactly that.
The Making Process
Each coaster starts with a raw concrete or MDF base. I pour my liquid acrylics over them, letting the paint flow and interact naturally to create those organic patterns you see. It is a messy, unpredictable process, and that is why I love it. Once the paint dries, I apply a layer of epoxy resin. This isn't just for the shine; it makes the surface waterproof and heat-resistant, which is essential for something that will hold your mug. I also add cork or felt backing to make sure your furniture stays scratch-free.
Giftable and Durable
These sets come in a reinforced cardboard gift box, making them an easy choice for birthdays, housewarmings, or just because. If you have a specific colour palette in mind—like something to match your living room or a favourite memory—I can create a custom set for you.
Whether you are in Bengaluru or anywhere else in India, I pack these carefully so they reach you in one piece. They are small, durable, and packed with the same creative energy as my large canvases. If you are looking for a way to add a bit of colour to your workspace or coffee table, I am happy to chat about what I have ready to ship or what we can create together.
Surekha Sundaram
Hi, I'm Surekha. My art journey is about finding my way back to myself, and I started these coasters because I wanted to share that colourful, messy energy in a way that feels practical. It is just me, some acrylic paint, and the joy of making something you will actually use.
