Exploring Different Art Mediums: Beyond the Canvas
Think art is just about painting on paper? Let's break the boundaries! From upcycling old items to sculpting with clay and shells, we explore endless ways to create. 🎨✨
Who knew paper cups could become such characterful sculptures? In this summer camp activity, KG and 1st graders learned about upcycling by turning simple cups into these adorable creatures, complete with detailed decorations.
Why have a plain handbag when you can make it a piece of art? This video shows the process of hand-painting a floral design on a leather bag, turning an ordinary accessory into something truly unique and personal.
This realistic watercolor painting of a cheesecake was done by one of my young students. It’s a great example of how we learn to observe details and use watercolors to create delicious-looking food art.
This 'Under the Sea' project is a perfect example of a mixed-media workshop. We combine painting on canvas with sculpting clay and gluing on real shells to create a multi-textured artwork that is fun to make and beautiful to display.
About Exploring Different Art Mediums
You don’t need an art studio to make something amazing. In these sessions, we work with whatever is at hand—paper cups, everyday accessories, or sea shells—to turn the ordinary into something special. It’s about teaching you to see potential in simple objects before you even pick up a brush.
When we talk about exploring art mediums, we are really talking about breaking the 'canvas-only' habit. My goal is to show you that creativity is not confined to a sketchbook. Whether we are transforming discarded paper cups into sculptures, adding textures with clay and sea shells for an 'Under the Sea' project, or hand-painting leather bags to give them a personal touch, the focus is always on the process.
Why mixed media? It teaches problem-solving. When you work with 3D elements like clay or recycled objects, you have to think about balance, weight, and how materials stick together. It is tactile and sensory, which is why it is so popular with kids during my summer camps and workshops.
For adults, the approach shifts but the joy remains. We use heavy-body acrylics, palette knives, and texture pastes to create depth that you just cannot get with a simple brush. It is about understanding how mediums interact. If you are looking for a unique activity in Khar West or across Mumbai, these hands-on sessions offer a refreshing break from the routine. We provide all the specialized supplies, from the canvas boards to the non-toxic clay, so you just need to bring your curiosity.
