Thinking about joining but worried about having two left feet? Here is everything you need to know before starting your salsa journey with us.

"Do I need a partner?" This is the most common question we get. The answer is no! Salsa is a social dance, and we rotate partners throughout the class.

"What should I wear?" Comfort is key! No special costumes or shoes are needed to start. Just wear something you can move in easily.

"How long will it take to learn?" Everyone learns at a different pace, but we find it takes about 3-4 months to get comfortable with the basic flow and rhythm of salsa.

Tip #1: Don't just focus on the steps, focus on the timing. Salsa is about dancing to the music, so we practice with music from day one to build that connection.

Tip #2: Avoid using too much arm force. The connection in salsa should be light and responsive, coming from your core and frame, not from pulling or pushing.

Tip #3: Don't skip the fundamentals. Many beginners want to jump to fancy turns, but mastering body movement, isolations, and balance first will make you a much better dancer.

Why are studio socials important? They are a safe space to apply what you learn, build confidence without pressure, and connect with your fellow dancers.

About Salsa 101: Tips for Beginners

The biggest secret we tell our new students? Forget about the fancy moves for a moment. Most people struggle because they focus on using their arms to lead or follow, turning a conversation into a tug-of-war. Real salsa connection comes from your frame and core. When you shift your focus from your hands to your center, you will find that the steps actually become easier and the music starts to make sense.
