My Personal Journaling Journey: Behind the Scenes of my Pages
People often ask how I stick to a habit when life gets messy. This isn't just about pretty spreads; it’s about the real, unedited process of turning thoughts into ink.
I used to just want to get better at art. Now, I just want to do it because it makes me happy. The moment you let go of trying to make perfect art, you start enjoying it more.
I admit it, I'm a professional gift hoarder. I used to save pretty journals and pens for a "grand occasion" that would never arrive. Today, I'm changing that and finally using my beautiful supplies.
The chaotic math of a journal lover. This one is for to-do lists, this one is for thoughts, this one is too pretty to use... it's a constant shuffle. Give me a high-five if you can relate.
Romanticizing my journaling time. Sometimes you have to elevate the environment with a candle and quiet music to face the thoughts you've been avoiding.
17 years of talking to my best friend, my diary. Looking back at my old handwriting and thoughts, I'm always so surprised by the person I was and the person I've become.
My butterfly effect. A series of seemingly random events, from a toxic boss to a conversation with my mom's friend, led me to leave my job and start this business. This is my dream life.
Before I started my art business, I wish someone had told me it would be lonely and the income wouldn't be steady at first. But I also wish they'd told me that the joy it brings would make it all worth it.
Just some old Bollywood vibes to romanticize my journaling time.
Elevating my environment with a candle and fresh flowers for a more mindful journaling session.
Taking my planner time very seriously. A new year is about becoming a new me, and it starts with intention.
About My Personal Journaling Journey
I’ve kept a diary for 17 years, and my handwriting has changed almost as much as my perspective. I used to be a 'professional hoarder' who kept journals pristine for a grand occasion that never arrived. Today, I write in mine with ink-stained fingers, knowing it's okay if a page is messy. If you've been waiting for the perfect time to start, that time is actually just whenever you have a spare five minutes and a pen.
For the longest time, I treated my journals like museum artifacts. I had a specific notebook for to-do lists, another for thoughts, and a fancy one I was too scared to use. It turned into a math problem, not a creative escape. That is the barrier most of us face: the fear of ruining the page.
My practice evolved when I stopped aiming for beauty and started aiming for relief. Journaling for me is a mental health tool first. Whether it's weighing a journal before and after filling it to see the weight of my thoughts, or just lighting a candle and setting a timer, the goal is clarity.
Why my approach is different
- No Art Skills Needed: You don't need to be a sketch artist. My creative journaling workshops focus on doodles, lists, and collages that anyone can do.
- Low Pressure: Missed a week? Don't worry about it. My method allows you to jump back in without the guilt.
- Mental Clarity: We use techniques like flow charts and interactive prompts to get the noise out of your head, not just to make pretty layouts.
Whether you are joining an online Klub, taking a beginner course, or just looking to understand how to label your thoughts, remember that the page doesn't care about your handwriting. It only cares about what you have to say.
Kumudini
I’m Kumudini. I teach creative journaling not because I’m an artist—I promise I’m not—but because I found that pouring my thoughts onto a page was the only way to silence my brain. I’m here to help you turn that blank page into a safe space for your messy, unfiltered reality.
