Responsible Trekking in the Western Ghats
Trekking is about soaking in the beauty of the Western Ghats, not leaving a mark on it. See how we keep our trails clean for everyone.
This is our team of trek leads after a clean-up drive at Ethina Buja. We are committed to keeping our trails beautiful.
This is what we found on the trails. We urge all trekkers to enjoy nature responsibly and avoid leaving behind alcohol bottles, cans, and other waste.
Discarded slippers, plastic, and other non-biodegradable waste found on the trail. This is not how we should treat mother nature.
Our trek leads working hard to collect waste from the trail, from the peak all the way down to the base camp.
Collecting waste during constant rain was challenging, but our team was determined to make a difference.
Our founder, Manju, speaking to the team about the importance of being mindful and responsible travelers.
The result of our clean-up drive. We hope this inspires everyone to be more conscious and help us in our mission to save nature.
About Our Green Pledge: Responsible Trekking
We take our no alcohol and no smoking policy seriously because we want the Western Ghats to stay wild. When we are not trekking, our team is out on the trails organizing clean-up drives, like the recent one at Ethina Bhuja, to remove waste left by others.
At Karnataka Hikes, preserving the environment is at the core of our operations. We follow the Leave No Trace principles strictly on every expedition. The Western Ghats are not just our office, they are our home. That is why we refuse to treat nature as a dumping ground.
During our clean-up drives, we tackle the growing issue of plastic pollution and discarded materials found at popular trekking spots. We often find items like alcohol bottles, cigarette butts, and plastic wrappers. Our trek leads actively remove this waste to restore the natural habitat. We invite you to be a part of this mission. By choosing to trek with us, you contribute to a cleaner environment and support sustainable tourism practices that protect biodiversity in the region. Whether we are in the Kudremukha range or trekking to Kodachadri, our focus remains on minimizing our footprint.
