About Kodachadri: Monsoon Magic & Waterfalls
One thing to keep in mind for our Kodachadri trek is the commute. You will be travelling in a non-AC tempo traveller for about 600km round-trip from Bangalore, and once we reach the base, the final push to the trek point is handled by 4x4 jeeps. It is bumpy, loud, and honestly the best part of the ride.
The Kodachadri trek is our way of showing you the real magic of the Western Ghats during monsoon. This is not just a hike; it is a full weekend escape into the clouds. We start our journey from Bangalore on Friday night, giving you just enough time to sleep on the bus before the real fun begins on Saturday morning.
Why Kodachadri?
It is the highest peak in the Shimoga district, standing at 1343 meters. We take you through the dense forest trails leading to the Hidlumane Falls, which is easily one of the most stunning waterfalls in Karnataka. Whether you are trekking solo or bringing your gang, the trail offers a perfect mix of challenge and reward. We also make sure to visit the ancient Sarvajna Peetha at the summit, where you can soak in the view of the surrounding lush green valleys.
What You Get
We handle the logistics so you can focus on the trail. Your package includes the 4x4 jeep transfers, which are essential for navigating the rugged terrain, forest entry permits, and homestay accommodation. You will be staying in gender-segregated dorms or tents, which keeps the costs low and the vibe high. Meals are basic, traditional vegetarian fare to keep you fuelled up for the hike.
A Quick Note on Expectations
Our treks are for those who want to experience the mountains, not luxury resorts. Expect limited hot water windows, basic shared washrooms, and the occasional leech or two. We have a strict no-alcohol and no-smoking policy, and we are very serious about our clean-up drives. If you are ready to trade your phone screen for some misty peaks and wild jeep rides, we have a spot waiting for you in our trek family.
Karnataka Hikes
We are just a bunch of folks who prefer Ghats over gadgets and chai over coffee. We started Karnataka Hikes to share the magic of our backyard, and whether you are a first-timer or a seasoned trekker, you will fit right into our trek family.
