Urban Snake Rescue and Relocation in Mumbai
Most snake sightings in our city are just wild visitors looking for shelter. I provide 24/7 rescue services across Mumbai and Thane to keep you safe and ensure these animals return to their natural habitat.
A call from the airport led to this rescue of an Indian Rat Snake that had found its way into a service room. No matter the location, I am equipped to handle these situations and ensure the animal is safely secured.
This baby Indian Rock Python was found near a residential area. During the monsoon hatching season, such sightings are common. I ensure these young, vulnerable snakes are moved to a safe place away from human conflict.
The powerful, silent movement of an Indian Rock Python. Rescuing and relocating these large, non-venomous snakes is a frequent part of my work, especially as their natural habitats shrink.
Known as the "Farmer's Friend," the Indian Rat Snake is a non-venomous species that helps control rodent populations. Rescuing them from urban areas helps maintain this natural pest control.
About this collection
When I arrive for a rescue, the first step is always site containment. I use professional stainless steel hooks and breathable cotton bags to safely secure the animal without causing it stress. Whether it is a rat snake in a service room or a cobra in your garden, my goal is a calm, non-confrontational removal so you and your family can stay safe while the animal is moved to a Forest Department-approved release site.
Why Snakes Enter Our Spaces
It is common to find snakes in homes, garages, or cars, especially during the monsoon season when hatching occurs. They are not looking for trouble; they are usually searching for dry shelter, food like rodents, or are simply disoriented by construction and habitat loss.
The Rescue Process
My work is governed by a strict protocol to ensure safety and ethical standards:
- Identification: I determine if the snake is venomous or non-venomous the moment I assess the situation.
- Humane Handling: I avoid pinning the snake down aggressively. Using long-reach tools, I gently guide them into escape-proof containment.
- Post-Rescue Care: Every rescue includes a physical health check. If I find an injured animal, it gets the care it needs before being released.
Legal & Ethical Standards
Many species I encounter, such as the Indian Rock Python, are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. It is illegal for untrained individuals to handle these animals. My process is fully compliant with Forest Department guidelines, ensuring every animal is relocated to a suitable wild habitat far from human settlements. My aim is to bridge the gap between fear and understanding, helping you coexist with Mumbai’s diverse wildlife.
Karan Solanki
I have been rescuing snakes since I was 8 years old, following my dad's footsteps in the field. It is not just a job for me, it is about fixing the broken relationship between city folks and our wild neighbors. I am here to make sure you stay safe without causing harm to the animal.
