Legal Defense for Animal Rights and Protection
The fight for those who cannot speak is personal. I use legal frameworks like PILs and animal welfare statutes to challenge illegal relocations and secure justice for stray animals in our community.
A quick look at the journey of our fight for stray dogs, from news headlines to speaking with the media and the joy of a successful outcome. Every step, from the Supreme Court to the streets, matters.
The fight for our stray dogs reached a critical stage with a three-judge bench at the Supreme Court. This is a snapshot of the case details for our PIL, a crucial step in ensuring their right to live.
I firmly believe that caging animals is not a solution. Here, outside the Supreme Court, I reflect on our continuous efforts to prevent the relocation of stray dogs to shelters and protect their freedom.
Speaking on NewsX about the Animal Birth Control Rules. I argue that Article 21's Right to Life extends to animals, and sterilization, not relocation, is the humane and legal solution for managing community dogs.
Relocating stray dogs is illegal. In this video, I break down the High Court's directions and explain the legal standing against the removal of dogs from their territories, empowering citizens to protect them.
In a podcast, I discussed a landmark case where we secured a conviction for an acid attack on a dog. This case set a precedent and highlights the link between animal cruelty and other violent crimes.
United for a cause. Here we are at Tis Hazari District Court, working with animal welfare organizations like Perroayuda Welfare Foundation to fight against cases of animal cruelty.
About Champion for Animal Rights
Many RWA committees claim they have the right to relocate community dogs, but current laws say otherwise. If you are facing harassment for feeding strays or dealing with illegal removal notices, we need to immediately document the evidence and file a formal representation against these actions before they escalate.
The legal battle for stray animals is often about clarity—specifically, debunking the myth that community dogs can be relocated. Under current Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, relocation is illegal. My practice focuses on stopping these actions before they result in the permanent displacement of animals.
My Approach to Animal Litigation
Legal support is more than just court appearances. It is about understanding the specific notice you have received and countering it with the relevant High Court precedents. If your society is threatening to remove dogs, do not wait for the eviction to happen. We act at the first sign of interference.
What I Handle
- Illegal Relocation: Challenging notices from RWAs or municipalities by citing Supreme Court and High Court mandates.
- Cruelty Cases: Filing FIRs and pursuing convictions for animal abuse cases. My work involves ensuring police cooperation where cruelty is involved.
- Policy Implementation: Ensuring municipal bodies follow sterilization and feeding guidelines rather than resorting to caging or arbitrary removals.
Whether it is stopping a cruel relocation drive or securing protection for an abused animal, I utilize Public Interest Litigations (PILs) to hold authorities accountable. I have appeared before the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court to argue that the Right to Life under Article 21 is not reserved for humans; it extends to our community animals.
