Handcrafted Furniture and Behind-the-Scenes Design Process
See how raw sketches become sculptural pieces. Step into my Delhi workshop where welding, woodwork, and upholstery transform materials into stories.
In my workshop, surrounded by my loyal companions. This is my sanctuary, where I am not just a designer, but a hands-on creator. The templates on the wall are the ghosts of past projects, each one a story of a design brought to life.
This is how the iconic Tango Bar comes to life. The process begins with a mild steel skeleton to create the wave-like form, which is then meticulously clad in brass. It’s a labor of love, from the workshop floor to its final place as the centerpiece of a room.
Surrounded by my creations. This is a moment of reflection in the workshop, with a collection of chairs I have designed and built. Each one represents a different exploration of form and material, from classic reinterpretations to modern sculptural pieces.
The making of a dining table is a dance of materials. This video shows the process of creating a solid wood table with a sculptural brass base. You can see the raw materials being shaped and joined, a testament to the hands-on craftsmanship that defines my work.
The process of creation is often about getting back to basics. Here, I am working on shaping wood for a new piece. The smell of sawdust and the feel of the material in my hands is where the real design happens.
A black and white moment captured in Bali, where I was working with local artisans. My design process is a constant exploration of materials and techniques, and I draw inspiration from craftsmanship around the world.
This video offers a glimpse into the creation of two of my award-winning pieces. You can see me explaining the process behind the Poet's Desk, with its solid teak and brass-clad drawers, and the Cosmic Bench, where we cast fabric in metal to create a fluid, draped effect.
About this collection
Every piece in this collection starts not with a digital render, but with a piece of charcoal and a notebook. When we build, we are not just following a blueprint; we are testing the material—whether it is solid teak, cast brass, or reclaimed cardboard—to see what it wants to become. You are not just buying furniture; you are engaging with the specific choices of joinery, finish, and form that happen on my shop floor every day.
My design process is defined by being a maker first. I spend my days moving between the sketchbook and the shop floor, handling tools from welding torches to chisels. This workshop is where the quiet luxury I am known for is actually forged.
Material Exploration
I do not see materials as commodities. I see them as narratives. Whether it is casting fabric in metal for the Cosmic Bench or experimenting with liquid metal finishes on solid ash wood, my approach is to challenge how these materials behave. We work extensively with solid teak, brushed brass, and even reclaimed materials, letting the texture suggest the final form.
Technical Craft and Joinery
Our furniture—like the Poet’s Desk or the Mapa Burl Bar—requires precise joinery and a deep understanding of structural integrity. When you commission a piece, you are not selecting from a catalog; you are collaborating on a structural choice. We discuss wood grains, brass finishes, and structural stability in our Delhi studio before a single cut is made.
The Reality of Making
Bringing a sculptural piece to life takes time. We do not rush the patina, the curing of the wood, or the final polish. If you are looking for mass-produced uniformity, my studio is not the right fit. If you are looking for furniture that holds weight, texture, and a personal history, that is exactly what we build.
K2India
I have spent my life on the shop floor, from my mother's workshop to my own. I do not just sketch designs; I weld, sand, and join them. At KoKo, we build furniture that feels alive because it was born from sawdust and stubborn attention to detail.
