You might see volleyball as a game of spikes and sets, but true dominance is built in the off-season. I focus heavily on endurance training and squad cohesion, what I call the 'dosti' factor. Whether we’re running cross-country at the SAI campus or debriefing after a match, I ensure my athletes are physically resilient and mentally connected to their team. Endurance is the silent partner of every great spiker. If your gas tank empties in the third set, your technique will fail regardless of how well you have practiced your jump serve. That is why my training methodology includes dedicated endurance blocks, including functional drills inspired by my Indian Air Force training, to build a foundation that makes your body capable of handling the high-intensity load of a professional match.
The 'Dosti' Advantage
In a team sport like volleyball, silence on the court is your enemy. The bonds formed during off-court activities, like marathons or team retreats, translate directly into match-day synergy. When you trust your teammate, your rotations are tighter and your defensive coverage is more reactive. I have seen teams with less raw talent beat superior opponents simply because their on-court communication was seamless.
Methodology
My approach is not just about running more. When we train at the SAI Southern Centre in Bengaluru or participate in endurance runs, we monitor consistency. We look at heart rate, recovery time, and stamina to ensure you are actually improving. You are building a level of physical literacy that separates a hobbyist from a serious athlete.
