About Choreography & Artistic Direction
Dance, for me, is not just about nailing the final show. It’s about soaking in the process, the grind, the tiny details that build up to that one magic moment when music, movement, and lights all click together. Aamar mone hoy (I feel) art is a way to tell stories and really connect - it’s messy, sometimes uncertain, and always evolving.
How I Work
I never rush the creative journey. Whether I’m working on a solo or a big production, it’s about letting the idea grow, not forcing quick fixes. I like sitting with the mystery and figuring things out as I go - doesn’t matter if it’s choreography or artistic direction.
- Choreographing new pieces: Solo, duet, group - I play with forms like Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, and mix things up to keep it fresh.
- Directing multidisciplinary stage productions: Think dance, painting, and live music all in one show. ‘Call of the Flute’ was one such baithak-style project with Kuchipudi, Pichwai art, flute, and more.
- Dance adaptation of literature & music: Translating poetry, plays, and classical tunes into movement. Projects like ‘Chitra’ (Tagore’s feminist play) or ‘Mandala’ (saint poetry) are close to my heart.
Collaboration Is Everything
I believe in teamwork. I’ve teamed up with musicians, dancers from different styles, visual artists, and designers. The best art I’ve made has come from bouncing ideas off others and mixing creative energies.
Where You’ll Find Me
Mostly in Delhi/NCR, but Mumbai is catching up. I travel across India for different collaborations and shows - Goa, Bangalore, Chennai, Jaipur, Kolkata, and more. If you’re looking for collaborative dance creation or want to bring a unique project to life, let’s talk.

My Story
I'm Amrita, dancer, mom, storyteller. My journey’s tangled up with Shlok—my late husband—who cheered me on, even in those sticky, no-AC Chennai basements. He’d get his hands on the mridangam, grinning away, filling our home with music and laughter. After he passed, art became my anchor. Now, every time I dance, it’s for my boys, for him, and for anyone who needs a bit of that magic.
My Work
Kuchipudi Performances & Workshops - I do solo and group Kuchipudi shows for events, plus run Kuchipudi dance workshops for anyone curious.
Collaborative Productions - Love mixing things up—like my 'Call of the Flute' that blends Kuchipudi, Pichwai painting, and live flute.
Storytelling through Dance - I tell stories, from Krishna’s leelas to Rabindra Sangeet, making each performance about feeling and connection.
Teaching & Process - It’s all in the details. I enjoy sweating the small stuff, sharing that with students, and finding joy in the practice.
