About Destination Wedding: Tropical Mauritius

Designing for a beach destination requires a balance between the raw beauty of the location and the structure of the decor. For this setup in Mauritius, we integrated locally-sourced banana leaves and bamboo for the bar structures to ensure the design felt native to the island, rather than brought in from a catalogue.

When we take on a destination wedding, the venue isn't just a background; it is a partner. For this Satak ceremony at Sugar Beach, we didn't want to fight the island aesthetic. Instead, we leaned into it with a 'Rustic Tropics' theme.

The Design Approach

We moved away from heavy structures that look out of place on sand. Instead, we used open-air wooden pallet sofas, jute rugs, and cane furniture that sit low to the ground, keeping the focus on the ocean view. The color palette was kept earthy—rusts, creams, and deep greens—to complement the natural sunset hues.

Materiality and Local Sourcing

One of the biggest lessons from our destination work is that sourcing matters. We paired exotic florals like Protea and Bird of Paradise with lush, locally available foliage like palm fronds and banana leaves. This creates that high-end, wild look while being practical for a tropical climate.

Logistics for Beach Decor

Sand is tricky. We avoid heavy metal frames where possible. We utilized lightweight but sturdy bamboo poles and custom-printed fabrics that can handle a coastal breeze. Every piece, from the woven pendant lights to the wooden centerpieces, was selected to withstand the humidity and wind of a beach venue, ensuring the setup looked as crisp at the end of the party as it did at the beginning.

Whether you are planning a beach wedding in Goa, Udaipur, or somewhere further afield, we approach every location as a new canvas, ensuring your destination event is personal, breathable, and unmistakably yours.
