About Creative & Editorial Work
Editorial work is a completely different ballgame compared to bridal. For this Heeramandi-inspired set, I shifted my focus from pure longevity to how the makeup interacts with intense studio lighting. We experimented with sharper contours and richer pigments that pop under camera flashes, all while ensuring the skin texture stays looking real, not plastic or cakey. It is about creating a mood, not just a clean face.
Why I do Editorial Work
People often see makeup as just 'oru paint adikira velai' (a painting job), but creative projects prove it is so much more. These shoots give me the space to step away from traditional bridal requirements and explore the artistry of makeup. Whether it is playing with bold colours, textures, or a specific historical aesthetic, these projects keep my skills sharp.
The Process Behind the Look
When we conceptualized this Heeramandi-inspired shoot, the goal was not just to replicate a look, but to capture the drama.
- Lighting Considerations: Unlike wedding makeup that needs to withstand sweat and 8+ hours of wear, editorial makeup is about how the product catches the lens. I used different blending techniques to ensure the contour looked seamless in high-definition images.
- Focus on Features: We focused on sculpting the eyes to look deep and expressive. Using the right pigments for brown skin is crucial here; it is very easy for colours to look ashy under studio lights if the base is not set correctly.
- Collaboration: A look like this is a team effort. From the hair and drape by Sivaaz to the jewellery and outfit, every element has to align to tell the story.
If you are a photographer, stylist, or a brand looking for a makeup artist who understands how to build a character rather than just applying a standard face of makeup, let's talk. I am always looking for projects in Chennai and Bangalore that allow us to get creative and try something new.
